Okay, so here's what I'm working on. It's not a huge sweeping change, but a refinement of the current system which can be further refined in future if need be.

1) The research conducted at each race will be more clearly explained and displayed up front on the Cars page, right alongside design points.

2) A new Research Dialog is added to the cars page, showing the performance level of your team vs the best teams in the league.

3) After each race, instead of comparing your total number of design points with the team that has the most overall (as it currently works), the research will look at each individual area where any team is stronger than your team, and earn a portion of the difference in that particular area.

4) The "Research" HQ will probably be renamed to "Technology" HQ, to avoid confusion between the two features

These screenshots below show a Work In Progress implementation of this I am building locally for testing. When I say we can add further refinements to this system in future, the first thing I can think would be to limit the gains to specific areas, and allow teams to focus on what those areas might be. But for an initial implementation, it would be entirely automated, as with the current system.

Thanks Jack this looks much better than the old system.

That is a much more accurate spy system. (lower graphic) but you seem to be saying that upgrades would be applied automatically by the game. is that what you meant?

In this first implementation, yes. Entirely automated, but much more precise in how it awards the points rather than the current "use them anywhere you want" approach.

We can look at variations and more manual factors further down the line.

Seems this could fix the problems. Nice job Jack!

I think it is more 'fair' to the top teams. I started off low this year, but have looked like Mercedes winning 9 out of 11 so far. I also have received 'bonus research' every race. The team with the 'best car' just had their best race since week 1, they were 9 seconds off...
Keep at it Jack, we will get there.

Looks way better than before.

No car can get better Attribute just with spying.

I personally would limit the spying to just 1 Team to slow the progress a bit and give the player another point to make decision.

@Jack : Nice work, I hope that will help to solve the current problem.

Looks a lot better than the current solution Jack. If I'm reading it correctly no single car could have any specific attribute higher then the strongest car in the leage for the same attribute.
Will the percentage of the difference be tied to the star rating of the TD?

I really like it, its reallistic, balance the system a bit further and of course lets us know who is aiming to win in specific tracks and counter it. As allways keep the good work.

Looks Great just want to ask will be based on TD and CD or not all?

Thanks in advance

Looks fine. And yeah choosing one area to focus design on at a penalty to the others would be fine too.

was a bit lazy with typing, because i was at my mobile phone, so a more detailed opinion

The suggestionswas a bit lazy with typing, because i was at my mobile phone, so a more detailed opinion

1) Better explanation is always great. Dont forget to mention, that the design for the next seasons car, is made over whole season.

2) This also sounds great. It should show the status after the race, so the the assigned points from spying/design after a finished race shouldnt be shown. This would hide the development for the cars until the next race. (But could be spied in the race)

3) The compare for each category seperate is really a must have. This is the key, that spying cant create better cars, than the car you spied from.

4) i dont care

screenshots: looks perfect :)

as i mentioned above i would limit the the spying to one team per race. So you can decide if you want to spy this parts or that parts. This would make it a lot more difficult to catch up, but it wouldnt be impossible. i have the feeling, that if you spy every teams at the same time, to much additional design points were given and the cars gets to fast about the same attributes.

So if i take your example of the screenshot, i assume that this is the screenshot for team C ;-). So Team C could decide to spy at team B to get better reliability and downforce (and maybe sth other improve a litte bit) or to spy team A to get much better cooling, Fuel Economy and Handling. Maybe he also could try to chose (virtual) Team D, but with less chances to be successful, as Team D has no top stats.

oh: The your suggestion goes general in the right direction, i could live also with the spying all teams, espacially as im already at a low level :o)

I will see if I can get this implemented on Monday, but failing that it should be ready by Tuesday.

I like this too jack, but I still think nothing should be automatically assigned by the system, managers should still be able to choose what parts they want to improve and so have points assigned to that part specifically.

Definately better than your total points vs best team total points. I just dont want to lose "choice" and "management" from the game. making everything automated by the game might make it more even but would completely destroy management and make the game no fun

Oh except the initial points allowcation. that is fine being automatically assigned based on your staff.
