So a few days ago I witnessed someone running 10 laps of SS at Abu Dhabi. By the end of ten laps the tyres would have been 18% wear remaining and they went progressively faster lap after lap, didn't slow down at all at less than 50% wear, and all this without the use of KERS. So it's not only the hard tyres that don't perform as you'd expect.

It sounds to me like the heavy load (in relation to being on SS) at the start of their stint must have negated any benefit offered by being on SS.

@Blunion. What I'm saying is that from observation lap times tend to stop improving when tyres go below 50%, below 40% lap times begin to increase and at really low levels they increase dramatically.... well that's how it seems to work for me.
These cars got progressively faster lap after lap right down to what should have been 18% tyre life. I just found it as unrealistic as hards operating at very low temperatures.

True, the whole tyre behavior system is rather simplistic and not realistic at all.

I've noticed this with medium tyres. Once I go below 50% wear my car becomes quicker than if I used new SS but as soon as I go to 50% on SS I go a lot slower.

The tyres are a bit of a mystery. I was going faster on 75% worn softs than I was on the following brand new set of softs! It makes no sense to me. I am having to learn what the tyres do in the game as opposed to what conventional wisdom says they should be doing.
