I wonder if there's a way to optimize the spying strategy in the research system.

Actually, I am at level 18 and I obtain the following percentages:
- 1 area -> 46 %
- 2 areas -> 23 %
- 3 areas -> 16 %
- 4 areas -> 12 %
- 5 areas -> 10 %
- 6 areas -> 8 %
- 7 areas -> 7 %
- 8 areas -> 6 %

My target is to maximize the "big 4" first of all, than the others if there's time.

After 3 races I have maximized the Acceleration (86 + 14 suppliers bonuses).

Now I wonder if is better to invest in the 3 remaining areas of the "big 4" at the same time, or if is better instead investing 1 per each or only in 2/3 per time.

Which strategy is the better? Which permit to maximize the earns in the fastest time?

The answer is unfortunately: It depends. The percentage describes how much of the difference between your cars attribute value and the one of the best team in that attribute you'll get as your research result, rounded up. Which means if those differences are rather equal, and especially if they are small, then it's better to split up. If you've got a larger deficit in one attribute it's better to concentrate on that. Also sometimes the rounding effect favours choosing two.

Examples:
You're behind 4 4 4 points in your 3 remaining attributes, with selecting 3 and 16% it'd be a result of 0.64 which means 1 point each to a total of 3, with 2 and 23% it's 0.92 which also means 1 point each selected resulting in a total of 2 points, with 1 and 46% it's 1.84 and thus results also in 2 points. Selecting all 3 is best (actually you can take everything else you're behind in, too, because it doesn't matter if it's 0.24 or 0.64, you get 1 point for your main attributes either way, but with selecting more you reap some extra points in the minor stats)

But 5 5 5 would give 3 * 1 (0.8) = 3, 2 * 2 (1.15) = 4 and 3 (2.3) by selecting one. Selecting 2 wins the day

Now 10 4 and 3, selecting 3 gives 2 (1.6) plus 1 (0.64) and 1 (0.48) equals 4, 2 is 3 (2.3) and 1 (0.92) equals 4, but 1 gives still 5 points (4.6). Selecting the highest one only is best

Thanks Frank for the explanation.

Anyway, in the Android App the game doesn't tell you how much points exactly is the gap in each area.

This detail is available only in the web platform?

Even in the browser you don't get an exact difference, you have to estimate the gap.

No, exact numbers on the gap are also not available in a browser. You can only guess/measure the gap from the bars, just like in the app.

edit: 39 seconds slower than Kevin ;(

You are both right, I've noticed that the exact gap is not showed at all.

It's only a guess, but for what that I can see we can lose at maximum 1 Research Point, so I don't think that it should be a relevant difference in the prospect!

I thought that with a precise tactic it would have been possible to maximize earning in RP for a bit more than only one single RP earned by the roundment.

  The optimal spying strategy is to always scout 1 stat. You only need to figure out what to scout and when.

@Igra. Not true, because of rounding sometimes more than one stat gives more points. If you're not the strongest team in any attribute you're guaranteed at least eight dp by researching them all.

 I won't write scouting guide here with all the why's and how's. The hint I gave was big enough. If you think its not true don't use it. When people use different strategies the game is more interesting.

Scouting guide? If you mean research (spying) guide we don't need one. There's already a very good one in Joey Mclane's IGP Manager Advanced Guide which is pinned to the top of the Help & Support section of this forum. Joey was one of the best Managers ever to play this game and his two guides are a good read for any one who wants to better understand playing the game.
You are right, there are many tactics and I still believe that researching only one attribute is not always the best strategy. It depends on many factors which includes your own CD strength and weakness and where the other managers place their design which can change from season to season.
