The last two races I've taken part in, and a few races I've spectated, P1 is always overtaken by P2 going into turn 1. Is this merely coincidence or is there some reason for it? P2 just drives over P1 almost as if they are on a completely different racing line. I'm wondering if it's a bug because it seems to happen way too often at that track.

Hmm, this happened in the pro division aswell of the same league. My two drivers Todorov and Alves, Todorov was overtaken going into turn 1 (or turn 2, the first sharp right hand turn)
They seem to be taking the same line as drivers do when they have left the pits. When you leave the pits at Valencia and you are right behind someone your driver carries way more speed going into that sharp right hand turn - This is what seems to happen with P2 on the first lap most of the time - They just rocket on passed the guy in front.

In our league, quite the opposite happens. The pole sitter usually pulls away very well, and creates a sizeable gap, nearly every season, moreso than most tracks. What distance does your league race?
Jason Lee medal 5000 12 years 144 days ago
100% races.
I'm not sure if it's a bug or not but I'm watching on 2D and they physically just drive over 1st place with like, what looks to be 50km/h extra pace. It's not a mild position swap, it's very aggressive, almost as if P2 isn't even braking for the corner - They basically launch passed them with what looks like 3 X the power of kers. I'm pretty sure it happened to pole last season (and seasons before), it happened to me yesterday (went from P1 to P2 out of nowhere), aswell as the pro division in the same race. It also happened to another guy in a lower league I was racing in the other day with a rookie account of mine. I got P2 and he got P1, and my guy just literally drove over him going into the first sharp right hander. I've seen it on many races I've spectated at Valencia aswell - It just seems to be happening too often to be a coincidence as far as I can see.
If there's any Valencia races on today I'm going to watch them again and see if it happens more so.

Coincidentally, last Elite season at Valencia I started 2nd and did pass 1st place. Cue one massive battle for the lead to follow though. Doubt it's much of a bug though, because the 100% race certainly isn't won on Lap 1.
I cannot recall how the previous Valencia's have gone.
Jason Lee medal 5000 12 years 143 days ago
In many races of ours is could be the difference between first and second. Most of our races are bloody close finishes (hungary for instance was only 0.222 between first and second - two different teams)
But yeah, it might not be a bug, but it doesn't look right. As I explained they do the same funny "launch" as someone who has just left the pits, and you never see it happen again at all over the rest of the race.

Same thing just happened in this race. I'm trying to see as many valencia races as I can but I'm not catching many.
Saad on pole. First sharp right hander Brown just drives over the top of him. I'm more convinced this is a bug now.

I noticed the same behavior when drivers are coming out of the pits.. They seem to have abnormally high speed in the first turn after pit exit (I remember Abu Dhabi specifically) and quite often overtake on-track drivers that are ahead of them before the turn.
Maybe it's due to the different approach to the turn? Drivers on the inside of the turn have a tighter radius after all..

I'm not talking about exiting the pits though, I'm talking about the second corner of the first lap. The first sharp right hander. I think it's turn 2.
I was only using the pit exit as a reference because it looks the same as when someone leaves the pits at Valencia. If you come out of the pits literally right up the someones backside at Valencia, your driver will always launch passed them into that same turn 2.
This is exactly what is happening with P2 over P1 on the first lap. They just launch passed for no reason. It actually looks silly and I'm sure it's a bug.

bump.
This is still happening guys. I've spectated over 10 races now (aswell as doing a race of my own here) since posting this bug, and they've all had P2 rocket passed P1 on the first lap, all on the same corner. I believe it just happened in the Speed Series race aswell.

Turn 1 Europe, drivers exiting pits slow for the corner than rocket past the turn.

Yep, happened in our race too. Luckily I was in second :)

It paid off for me the other day too. Started P2 and knew that if I was out front I would pull a gap.. Sure enough, overtook P1 into the second turn haha.
Alin Costrasuc medal 5000 12 years 135 days ago
Any word from Andrew or Jack on this matter ? It's annoying if you're in front and it's unrealistic.
Jason Lee medal 5000 12 years 135 days ago
Not sure. I posted this thread up 9 days ago but no response from any dev's yet. I suppose they do have bigger tasks on their plate though.
The best way I can describe the first lap problem is exactly the same as the pits problem. If you come out of the pits right behind someone at Valencia you just rocket on passed them into that second turn almost as if you're carrying 100km/h extra speed around the corner. The same thing happens on the first lap with P2 and P1. Something just doesn't add up. It only seems to happen if both teams are using softs and 5/5 push though. If the P2 driver is on hards or 2/5 push or something it doesn't happen - I assume because they're not close enough.

Just did Valencia in our league and nothing happened. 1st stayed first for some time, and we have a lot of people fighting over the top few spots. So no, it's nowhere near constant.
Jamie Franklin medal 5000 12 years 135 days ago
Yeah, it has only happened in Speed Series (Elite) the one time. Every other time, it has been the polesitter that has pulled a gap. I'm sure it's not always coincidental that this is happening quite a lot, but considering that the person who then gets in front goes on to pull a gap, surely means that they're quick enough to be out in front anyway? If the polesitter was that quick, then they'd catch them again.
And if there was a bug with one side of the grid being quicker than the other, then surely everyone on the even grid slots would get the jump into turn 2 :P
I'm not doubting that there is something wrong, I'm just trying to be a little subjective.
Andrew Wiseman medal 5000 12 years 135 days ago
I had a look into this and couldn't find a cause for the anomaly. There may be a problem with the way that the effect of dirty air is being simulated at this particular corner, giving overtakers an unrealistically good overtaking opportunity. I'll note this as something to investigate later on when we have some spare capacity.
Jason Lee medal 5000 12 years 90 days ago
This bug is still happening. I've seen it four times in the last few days alone. It happened in my league, it happened in another league I'm in with a second junior team, and it happened in a league I'm hosting but not competing in just 2 minutes ago. It also happened in a random race I was spectating this week.
If you click on the second place driver, they actually carry about 20-30km/h more around the first corner than any of the other drivers according to the little speedometer down the bottom. It's just silly really. I hope this is being revised for the new update - I can't stress how increasingly annoying this is becoming at this track. I'm almost tempted to run 4/5 in qualifying just on purpose so I don't get pole.
Jason Lee medal 5000 12 years 90 days ago
In fact make that 5 times. It happened in both the Rookie and Elite sections of the league I'm hosting.
