I wonder if it would be possible to build a feature, that shows your virtual position on the track, if you are about to pit this lap? (in 2d view)
Could help deciding to do a earlier stop in order to avoid a group of cars battling for position.

Example: you are currently third, have fuel for 3 more laps, but the guys 25 seconds back are currently faster. With this feature, you could see, that an earlier stop would get you out in front of this guys rather than behind if you'd stick to your original strategy.

It's pretty much what they use in real racing too.

It's an interesting idea, albeit very difficult to implement, I'm sure. I think one of the difficulties with such a feature, is that it would give you an idea of where you'd come out based on a perfect stop. However, as it is, there are other factors that can slow your stop significantly, and so some of the time it would be quite inaccurate.

Not to mention the fact that if you suddenly decide to pit earlier than planned, then you've kind of messed up that stint anyway, considering you'll have been carrying around more fuel, and therefore would have been slower.

If you already know it then why do you need a feature to tell you? You can always see how long a pitstop is after the first stop, just compare gap times before and after, then when your second or third stop comes round, calculate. Also this is iGP, not F1, even if you come out in front of someone who's been out for a couple of laps, they'll still nail you because their tyres are warmer.

This could easily be done if your engineer as part of his "3.6 litres per lap, 2 stop strategy" pre-race briefing tells you simply "a pit stop iis estimated to take XX seconds"

This is down to your calculating and shouldn't be done by the system. I do these calculations between races and I have built my own calculator to do the job in less than a minute. This comes from common sense and learning your other teams. To make this completely available to everyone, would mean that there would be no variety and everyone will be on the same strategy.

Race your own Race.

If you want to learn the other team's stop strategies, look at their previous seasons and see if you can determin what they are going to do. For this reason I am now currently sitting on every podium in a 4-team battle for championship atm.

Why would having the system tell you how long a pit stop takes make everyone race to the same strategy?

I think what the op was saying is that they want to know how long a pit stop takes so during the race they can work out quickly where they'd feed out if they called their cars in for an early stop.

Yes, you can calculate it for yourself and would need to work out how many extra seconds it would take to add the extra fuel you'll need to take on to get to your next scheduled stop but I can't think of a single reason why your engineer can't tell you how long a pit stop will take if follow their advice and do a straight up 2 / 3/ 4 stint race with equal distances between stops.

I agree with David, it's called iGP Manager after all.
