Hi Kev,

I copied your questions from the other thread. Thanks for the help because it's driving me crazy. I'll answer each point seperatly to try and avoid confusion.

I assume you're talking about team "Ford Transit" and the fact your CD stats say he's been with you for 15 races but only finished 10 suggests something is badly wrong. One of your drivers didn't finish the Spanish GP because of suspension failure which indicates you're not regularly replacing parts or engines.

Yes that is my team. I gave up on that driver because he wasn't getting the results and costing me money and tokens by having to replace the parts and engines every race so I abandoned him. Tonight I replaced him with another driver who only has 1 star. My plan is to keep her till I have fully upgraded my young driver in the youth academy. So I have been consintrating soley on the other driver.

One of your drivers is shocking, the fact that he's only just joined the team suggests you let your previous driver contract expire
.

Yes just a temporary replacement till I have fully trained the driver from my youth academy as explained above. This shouldn't affect the other active driver as I understand.

Are you assigning design points effectively and making the best use of research?

I think I am, I am caught between two theories. Neither of which seem to work. One is to hold back on design points for the first half of the season to gain more design points from spying. The other was to try and match the other teams Big 4. I also realise that you should only consentrate on the big 4 in research. For example research 2 of the big 4 through spying and then placing design points to the other 2. This didn't seem to work as I was only getting a handful of design points through spying every race so I figured I may as well research all catogories that are behind compared to other teams.

Regarding race management are you using good strategies? Are you keeping tyres in the correct temperature operating range? How well do you manage Push and KERS? (I know you have a problem with KERS from another thread).

Again I don't know. The goals set by sponsers are noramlly in the points so they must thing I am able to finish higher up. This makes me sure the problem lies with the drivers but until I have my young driver fully researched I won't be able to tell. My strategy is normally to do half the number of laps as the testing suggests as they automatically overheat once they reach the half way point. So for example if the test says 5% wear I know they will overheat after 10 laps on push level 3. As for fuel I have tried both over filling so that I can push hard towards the end of the stint and underfilling and reducing the push stategically to make up for the lack of fuel so that I have less weight. Temperature seems to be varied in opinion with some saying you should keep it in the middel of the white zone and others saying up to half way in the red. I try and keep it in the white but end up in the red to keep up. KERS (which seems to be working fine since using Firefox) I obviously try and save towards the end of the race but end up using as again I'm trying to catch up with the drs train in front, so obviously it's all gone by the end because I just don't have the pace.

You're L18 and it's not just a L14 manager beating you it's most of the managers in the league. IMO you are not managing your team as well as the L14 person who is beating you.

I don't have a problem with a lvl 14 beating me if they manage their team better, but my frustration is I feel I have tried everything I know and it's like there is some secret I haven't uncovered and the last straw is because I'm trying to keep up with the front runners I use up everything and end up with 10 laps with no KERS and burned up tyres.

To summeries I don't want to be spoon fed information because that is the fun of the game but it would be helpful to know which part of my game is letting me down. Is it the driver, or the design points, or the strategy? Also how do I improve my pit crew because good grief they are crap and I have pretty much got at least 4 and a half stars for everything in my HQ. Just working on training but that shouldn't affect pit crew. What is the secret to a good pit stop?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Drew.

Wow, so much information I don't know where to begin.

Probably best that you carefully read Joey McLane's two guides. He was a legendary manager who doesn't play any more but what he didn't know was probably not worth knowing. Also have a read through Gérard's thread which also contains some useful nuggets of information.

BTW.
Regarding keeping that rubbish driver whilst you train your youth academy driver... why? Sack the Abigail Hamilton (thus saving you money every race) and race your academy driver at the same time as training. If your academy driver is high talent they'll do better than Abigail Hamilton who presumably only got a race seat because of her family connections LOL.

Thanks Kevin,

I read the two guides by Joey constantly, and I already knew everything from the third one, it's a good reference though. Why isn't it pinned to the top of Help & Support with the others. Joey's guide needs updating regarding tyres.

I am using Abigail because if I start using my young driver his experience will push his level above my level 18 before I have reached level 20 in all other areas. I think that make sense?

Keep in mind experience only goes up with 1 after 10 races, so more than a season to go up 2 points.

My two drivers are fully trained, have experience 13 and 11 and are still level 18.

There are far better managers out there than me but I get by and do okay most of the time so what I'm going to suggest might not be the best advice but it should get you in the points.

Have a look at the previous season and see what strategy the winning team used... Then (providing no rain is skewing the results) copy it for this season! This will be a very good starting point and if you have top managers in your league it will probably be the optimum for that circuit. Alternatively find another high rep league with the same race distance as your league and have a look at what strategy their winning managers use.

Don't over or under fuel. Calculate the fuel load so that the cars pit by themselves on the lap you want them to pit. Ideally they will have 1 litre or less fuel remaining when they pit and at the end of the race. If they pit too early you miscalcuated and under fueled them, if they have more than a litre of fuel remaining it is a conservative fuel load and they would have been faster with a litre less.

You HAVE to attend the race if you want any chance of doing well in a competitive league. Manage the push to keep the tyres in the optimum temperature range (in the middle should work okay) and manage KERS to make best use of DRS. If the tyres start to get too warm reduce push and if they begin to creep into the cool zone increase it. Don't wait until they're on fire before reducing push, you'll have real difficulty getting overheated tyres back into the ideal temperature range.

If your cars are still well off the pace with the same strategy as the winner you should consider taking a critical look at your car design and research strategy.

Thanks Gert and Kev for the help. Gert that does make sense I just wanted to make sure I didn't go into the red because I've had enough of that. Also the training slows down the higher your drivers level is it seems so I thought the quickest way would be to not use him till he's maxed out. Either way I only have about 6 days till he is maxed out! Can't flipping wait!!! Kev thanks for clarifying a lot of the stuff I wasn't 100% sure about.

Also when training drivers, upgrade physical first.

For chief designer I try to make sure the weakness isn't one of the big 4.
