during a race the laptimes always drop a lot
the effect of fuel is one, but in my first stint and last stint is a 3 to 4 second difference with the same tyre wear and fuel load.
where does that gain come from? and is it always equal?

I assume it is due to rubbing in of the track. Therefore the stint time of equal tyre fuelload is different in the several stints. I have made an analysis for several tracks. Track improvement is about 0,05s per lap (based on 2.0 speed leagues)

It may also be due to the fact that as cars make through path on the track, cars work that much less to go through the same path over.

Keep also in mind that that less fuel you have on board the faster your car goes. Fuel, like the driver  adds to the overall weight of the car affecting its performance accordingly.
