Why have you compiled the live race features with Java 7? I can't believe that you would actually need Java 7 for anything.

What that does, however, is that everyone who have Java 6 installed can not use the live race screens. At all. It simply refuses to load.

Can you please re-compile with Java 6 and redeploy.

Thanks

There are multiple versions.  If you have version 6 and get a window asking you to upgrade you can decline and you should be served a version compiled with Java 6.  There seems to be a problem with this system though as there are some reports of problems with it.  I will get it fixed as soon as I can.

I have Java 6 at work (I cant upgrade) and cannot use the live screens, only observe timing screen. Do you know what sort of timescale this will be fixed? My races start when I am still working.

The problem I referred to in my last post was actually fixed within about a day (sorry I didn't update this thread!).

Have you been unable to connect with Java 6 for some time, or only recently?  What happens when you try to use the live control page?  If you have Java 6 it should ask you if you want to upgrade to the latest version of Java.  You should then press Cancel and it should continue to load with version 6 anyway...

I have had the problem for a few weeks. When I open the live control page, it does what you say- I press cancel but live controls do not load, it just shows live timing and the black background where the controls should be. Effectively I just have to hope my pre-race setup is right and pray! lol

Is it possible to play this game via browser without Java at all?

My 2D viewer is still screwing up with Java 6, if I click on any drivers, it will freeze

Jason:  Have you had any luck yet?

Marcus:  You can play all of the web game and watch the live timing using the "Mobile Timing" window, but you won't be able to use the controls or chat in the main Timing window nor run the 2D viewer.

s x890410: Sorry about this, that should be fixed now.

I've been having the same trouble as Jason for several weeks. I'm also at work when this is happening and can't upgrade.

Jason:  I may have asked you some of these questions already some time ago in a different thread, please excuse me if so.
[list=1]
[*]Does Java work at all for you?  Go to this page and see what the test applet tells you: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
[*]Are you able to test to see if you can make an outgoing connection from your network to port 25010 at race.igpmanager.com?  One way to do that on Windows is to run "telnet race.igpmanager.com 25010".  You should get a black screen if the connection succeeds.  Otherwise you will eventually get a timeout error.

I don't mind if you don't let Jason have controls, I do quite a lot better when he's unable to adjust on the fly ;) just kidding of course, I've noticed he doesn't get in the chat window and I feel alone in this crazy universe...

(Just had to troll on this one)

Hi Andrew,

A1. Java normally works fine for me, the test applet wont show my machine id but when checking all the settings- they are ok and are as they should be.
A2. I've run 'telnet race.igpmanager.com 25010' black pop up screen says connecting to  ' race.igpmanager.com' then just closes.

Jeff, it also helps when i forget about the first 3 races of the season ;-) good race yesterday though- messed my fuel up again!

Jason:  Ok, it seems that you can't make an outgoing connection on port 25010.  Just to be sure, could you also try visiting this page:

http://portquiz.positon.org:25010/

If I am correct, and the port is blocked, you shouldn't be able to visit that page and you will get some kind of error message.  Otherwise, you will get a page where the 3rd line says:

"You have reached this page on port 25010."

You must be able to make an outgoing TCP connection on port 25010 in order to connect with any of the live control interfaces (including the chat interface).  We have it on the development list to build a firewall workaround to cater for people in your situation.  Unfortunately that will still take some time to complete.

In the meantime, the only thing you can do is ask a network administrator at your workplace to remove the block.  There is probably a workaround you can build yourself to get past the firewall.  However it would be quite complicated and would probably need another server outside your work network to do some address translation.
