I am experiencing difficulties getting the 2D viewer to load.  When I click on the 2D icon, the new window opens and a blank, black web page is presented.  The java console outputs the information listed below and hangs.  After about 30 secs, the console closes and the black page reports that the plugin failed.  I re-installed Java but the problem persists.  I am able to get the 2D viewer working in Windows 7 running on a virtual machine, but not with the native (host) OS X operating system.

At first, I thought it was my slow internet connection; however, I was able to get the 2D viewer to load in a Windows 7 virtual machine.  I am more perplexed/confused about the cause of the failure than ever.  Hopefully, we can get some answers soon.  Thanks for letting me know that I am not swimming alone in this Java pool of dismay.

Jason,
Today I was able to finally get the 2D viewer to load in the native/host operating system (OS X).  It took a loooong time for the Java spinning wheel to load the information, but it finally completed the task.  It appears that the black cloud of Java has moved on from me.  Good luck and I hope it works for you soon.

I had to do a fairly urgent fix to the 2D viewer, unrelated to the issue described here.  So it may be that this newly compiled version works for you and there was some subtlety of the former version that upset your computer.  Could you please continue to add to this thread if you have any more problems.  I am keeping an eye on it, I just haven't had time to give it dedicated attention.  Hopefully the problem will not return though!

About the download being slow:  Partly as a result of issues Jason was having a while ago, I have added quite a lot of the media files directly into the applet itself.  This means it is now about 20MB.  The downside to this is that the initial download will take a while but it should remain cached on your computer and you will not have to download it again until I post another update. So with the cache, individual races will start up faster as the viewer will not have to download anything substantial in addition to what it already has.

Thanks.

The 2D viewer will not start on my computer. I have Windows 7 updated and the latest Java version. Same with Internet Explorer and Chrome.I used to work but  I have had this problem for 12 days.

Hi Ken,

Could you please go here: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp and see if that confirms that you have the latest (and working) Java installation?

What happens when you try to run 2D?  Do you just get a white page, or do you get any kind of message?

Thanks.

I wish iGPManager would be ported to something more reliable, such as Silverlight or HTML5. Java has caused me no end of issues and difficulties. Whether I connect up to iGP 2D on my desktop or notebook, it's always a dice roll on whether it will work right away or whether it requires multiple restarts to get going. I'd say it's time to ditch Java.

I'm am on a slow internet connection, so I have difficulty isolating the troubles I have.  During the race on Friday, my connection was lost with the server approx 6 times.  Sometimes it would disconnect when I pressed the KERS button, but sometimes it would just drop when I was not doing anything except watching the dots go around the track.  I am in a remote location and am fortunate to have a connection to the outside world, but the Java troubles that everyone has experienced have given this game a black eye in my opinion.  Like Eyo stated, starting the 2D viewer is a crap shoot whether it will load properly or not.

If the game were in Silverlight I couldn't play it at all. Silverlight doesn't run on older systems (I'm on an AMD Athlon 1.2GHz); I can't even install it on this. At least Java will run (ideally) on any operating system.

Thanks Andrew,
I tried each option and it still doesn't work. Just get the spinning Java wheel.  Let it go for 15 min and still nothing.

My computer:
Intel Core i7CPU 3.06Ghz
12GB ram
Windows 7 home premium
64-bit
IE 9
2TB hard drive - half full

I have the latest version of everything.

It workrd for the first 5 times then stopped working 2 weeks ago.

Strange thing is I have a far less powerd laptop with XP and IE 8.
2D works fine on the laptop.
