I read the sticky about Java problems and updated to the most current version (Version 7, Update 9) as of 10/22/12.  When I go to launch the 2D viewer, I get the Java image and a progress bar at the bottom.  The bar starts to move then stops fairly quickly and never goes any farther.  I am running Windows 7.  I don't get a blank/black screen at all, I get Java's logo and a progress bar.

The Java logo with the progress bar means you're downloading the applet. Depending on your connection it can take a while (I've had to wait as long as 15 minutes or so).

If anything, try spectating another race via 2D when you don't have another race coming up, and just leave it. If nothing else, it will download the applet and you'll have it cached, so you won't have to download it again - I think Andrew said the 2D viewer is 20 MB because all the track images are embedded in it.

James is correct, the bar represents the progress of the download of the applet.  It is just under 20MB.  I am investigating other ways of getting the applets delivered to players as there have been a few people who can't get the download to complete even after waiting a significant amount of time.

I know it doesn't help you Nathaniel but I was having your exact problem for a little over two weeks. Then it magically fixed itself for no apparent reason. I must have tried to re-download the applet about 100-150 times.

Here's my thread on it. I dare say the problem is the same?

Thanks for all of the replies.  I have been "downloading" the applet this morning for about an hour, with no progress change on the progress bar.  I am starting a new season today and would love to have this resoved.

Here is my Java information if this helps?
