Levelling and xp

I’m curious as to how a manager can get to lvl 8 in just 15 races while after about 40 races I’m still just lvl 7 and needing to race another 15 races before getting to lvl 8

The EP you gain for each race depends on who you race against. If you've got managers in your league above your current level you gain more as if you're racing against managers with the same level.

The formula is as follows:

20 EP* x (x being the difference in level between you and the highest level in your league)

e.g. your current level: 3, highest level in your league: 8 -> 20 EP*5 = 100 EP per race just due to the difference in manager level ;)

I’m getting 40 when racing with the same or lower lvl managers. So once the lvl 12 manager from the rookie group promotes ill gain more xp but I’m unlikely to win races next season 

Yes, 40 EP is the base and on top you'd get the described 20 EP*X bonus.
