designer points issue.

have a 5 star designer CD and TD.
last race I got 4 designer points.
went to apply the points and I only had 3 points.
not sure what's going on.
mail box said I won 4 designer points. is that added automatically ? then other points are extra , under the cars tab?

The post race email refers to your research points which are automatically applied to the attribute(s) you were researching. As you say, the only points you get to assign manually are those generated by your Design HQ.
