Everyone remembers their first car, even when they're 80 years old and senile they still remember that feeling of freedom, the sense that you can go anywhere or do anything you want (as long as you've got enough money for fuel).

What was YOUR first car?  Do you remember it fondly or was it an absolute dog?

My first car was a 1987 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with a 5-speed manual transmission, low range gear box, and it could even go RWD to save fuel and get that rear end out on the dirt roads!  It had a straight six engine and was NOT aerodynamic at all.  I put that thing through the ringer, even drove it through a river one time and flooded the engine.  Woke up the next morning and it started right up, no problems at all.  I miss that thing, but unfortunately it wasn't mine so it got sold after an accident (someone hit me, not my fault!).  That thing taught me more about cars than anything before or since.

My Dad lent me his spare car a 1988 Ford Fiesta XR2 for the first 2 months after passing test then my first car i brought was a 1990 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 (in 2001-2002), which i had nothing but problems with for 18 months just one thing after another.

The first own car, before I had to get dads Mercedes 190 2.5 Diesel if I needed a car, would be a Subaru 1800 Turbo. Unfortunately Automatic but else it was a nice car and with the 4WD and ride height adjustment winter or wet grass were more an opportunity for some fun and not any kind of worrying obstacle. My dad got it cheap as the former owner totalled it (money wise) on the front end and luckily the local scrap yard had the similar car which had a rear accident.

Oh that's nice!  I've been looking into getting a Subaru in the future possibly.  We have a Volvo at the moment but it has very high mileage, so I'm already thinking about what to get next.
