F1 Canadian GP 2019

What was Vettel's 5 second penalty?

55.56% (25)
A yoke (joke)
44.44% (20)
Fair and deserved

Do you agree with the stewards' decision to give Sebastian Vettel a penalty in the Canadian GP 2019?

Completly agree with you. He was going to spin. Had he not corrected, he could have ended in the wall perhaps taking Hamilton out with him. He's been given 5 seconds for avoiding a collision.  ?

And before people say I am a fanboy, I don't particularly like any of these 2 drivers.

It is a very tough one to call. Obviously as race fans, we want the battles settled on the track, without any time penalties.

In this case, Sebastian Vettel made a mistake, and he elected to use the inside grass of the corner to stabilise his car (prevent a full spin)

When he rejoined the track, he encountered a 2nd oversteer moment, and turns right to correct it. In my opinion, if Seb then had left a car's width on the exit of the corner (when he then had his car fully under control, based on his steering wheel inputs) he would have escaped the penalty. The gap to the wall looks around 1.75m, and Hamilton had to lift heavily.

30 cm more of a gap, and both cars could have made the exit, and we could have witnessed a very nice next corner :)

Great race from Sebastian Vettel though, shame the mistake happened, and on another track with a grass or tarmac run off area, he would not have got a penalty. Just unlucky he made todays mistake in a section that is like Monaco with the wall/barrier as the track limit.

Good insight. As a Ferrari fan I cannot agree with the penalty however to be honest Vettel could have braked but yes would have still lost the race so hence the "block''. He knew Hamilton was right behind him and would have lost the race there and then as Hamilton would run away. That is the reason he got the penalty. So with or without the penalty Vettel would have lost the race...unfortunately. My opinion :)

The penalty was a joke. In my opinion, these "incidents", (better word is mistakes) makes the Formula One a Formula One a 70 years...
That mistake alone was for Vettel a penalty.

Canadian GP 2019 is in this case, only next in line of good races, but unfair decided. And this is a next penalty, which destroyed a whole F1. Some drivers have now afraid from overtaking or making a hard battle, due to stress from any penalty for this. But this is for F1 typical!

Some good analysis by former F1 driver Karun Chandhok on the incident: https://streamable.com/m9yis

Vettel's mistake yes, but he saved the car well with Hamilton in close quarters and there was not much else he could do. Seems easier in slow-mo, but in real time, try correcting the car in that amount of time in that sort of chicane with Hamilton of all people right behind you, Vettel did well to not put both of them in the wall. Hamilton with his quick reflexes also helped in preventing any major contact.

A racing incident. Even as a Hamilton fan and Vettel critic, utterly rubbish penalty.

That was absolutely unnecessary. That was an absolute howler from the stewards. Put yourself in Vettel's situation there, he had made a mistake and then he had to return to the track, he can't just simply disappear into thin air. Karun's analysis can help understand his situation clearer- just nothing he could do there, except just slowing down and let Hamilton pass. That was fully a racing incident. Seems like everything is contributing to Ferrari's miserable season- reliability in Bahrain, driver mistakes in Bahrain by Vettel and in Baku by Leclerc, poor strategies, and when they are fast enough, their race gets curtailed by this decision.

As Fernando Alonso said: "Five-second penalty is a JOKE"...

Bottom line is Vettel made a mistake. None of this would have happened if he had kept his car on the road. You can blame the stewards for a poor decision but Vettel  buckled under pressure. His days in F1 are numbered and he knows it.

Whatever happened to "racing incidents"?
If that is a penalty, we might as well go to a 'time trial' format. The precedent (MV/KR)was a poor decision, this was a poor decision. Sad for the sport.

The penalty is unfair. (A JOKE!). The FIA stole the race from Vettel and Ferrari. Vettel deserved the race win. #maFIA.

By the way, Ferrari has hung a flag in Maranello! ? ...
