If I have acceleration +14 the game allows me to add 114 points to my Acceleration but am I right in saying only 100 counts. so unless I change sponsers its pointless adding more than 100 total

Yes you have got this exactly right. It gets asked by a different person just about every day. I think I might start a FAQ thread LOL.
The game does not recognise more than 100 dp so any combination of base design + supplier bonus that takes the total dp to more than 100 is wasted.
Over the course of a season you need to carefully consider where you assign your design centre generated dp, which attribute(s) you research and which suppliers you use to gain the greatest advantage.
Also it is important to note that the design cap is lower for Rookie (50) and Pro (80) and because of this it is possible to select suppliers that will allow you to exceed the cap.

Thanks Kevin. good to know. I always see my bar at 100 and other teams higher. just wondered if they were getting an advantage and if I should spend some more points.
