Design Updates after Practice

If I update my Design and refit the parts for qualy/race, will it have a major affect on my setup ?

Would it mean that the setup could be a lot worse due to the better car parts ?

Because it is impossible to practice using new car parts as they are fitted onto the car 30 minutes before the race, after practice so I need to know what difference it makes to the setup.
