Should Vettel retire?

It's Friday, so that means it's time for another #ForumFriday discussion!

This week's topic: Should Sebastian Vettel retire at the end of this season following his recent run of form over the past year, or is it too soon for a legend of a sport to hang up his helmet yet?

Very interested to hear all of your thoughts about this!

I think vettel will have one more season at ferrari just depends on how he does

AAs much as Ido not like him, he is still an exceptional driver,, i think Ferrari have let him down, except in british gp when he let himself down by crashing into Verstappen, it would be good to see him in same team as hamilton, they would dominate, but it would be some good racing between them

He should not retire at all. Vettel on his day is still a brilliant racer, and I would like to consider this year as one in which he just failed to get a momentum going. He still has alot to give us imo, and personally I'll be surprised if he doesn't get a fifth championship before his retirement. All he needs is his confidence back and a car that suits him, and we would be seeing the Vettel of the old. While Hamilton has that mental edge over Vettel, I do not believe that at this moment, the gap between Hamilton and Vettel's skillset is that huge as the points table show

I don't see the need to retire after a few bad results. But I don't see him, (or anyone) winning a championship unless they are driving for Mercedes AMG Petronas until a real change is made to the engine specifications of F1.
Bring back V8s! 

Should ferrari kick him out? no, even if he does more mistakes than in the past, he is still good for the team due to his experience setting up the car and he still has quitea good pace.
Should he retire? No again, for this one i don't even think his performances come into play: as longas he has fun in F1, i don't see why he should decide to go.

He should retire because he’s no sportsman and never will be and so he doesn’t deserve to be in F1 despite his skills being good 

If that is your criteria for retirement then there wouldn't be many left on the grid, certainly Hamilton would have to go after he accused Kimi of driving into him and endangering lives as a deliberate tactic. Verstappen would be gone too, and Bottas, maybe Leclerc would survive your cull.

Jokes aside, Vettel is still one of the best drivers on the grid despite his reputation for being one of the most error-prone WDCs.

Note that Ferrari, while having a great car, are to put it mildly not ideal when it comes to things like their race strategy and management. There was a post on Reddit recently that basically highlights how Vettel has to do the jobs of both driver and strategist because Ferrari utterly lack the proactive planning, decisive decision making, and sharp organisation that's necessary for good race strategy. This is in contrast to teams like Red Bull/Toro Rosso who are more or less glued to their drivers on the radio and highly attentive to their comments and queries.

So if anything Vettel is still an exceptional driver especially considering how much multitasking he has to do (and that's coming from someone who's not a fan of Vettel). Any realistic replacement (including Leclerc IMO who I believe still lacks experience, poise, consistency and more despite having a lot of raw pace and potential as a future WDC. Including Bottas since... it's Bottas, 'nuff said, why would you replace Vettel with Bottas? Including Ricciardo as maybe he's potentially as good of a driver on track but for Ferrari, especially for the need to essentially come up with his own strategy, we'll have to see) would be a downgrade. The only drivers on the grid who are arguably clearly better than Vettel at the moment IMO are Hamilton and Verstappen, but Verstappen is also highly incident-prone, if not moreso than Vettel. 

The only reason for Vettel to retire would be if he doesn't have the motivation to do it anymore. Vettel is one of the F1 drivers who actually yearn for testing time as well, as opposed to some of his peers. 

Possibly.. his form is a bit off. Guess will just have to wait and see.
