something that’s been in my mind for a while now, I use two different tyre compounds per race like they do in F1, I get beaten by drivers just using the same compound throughout the race.
I like a good strategy battle but this feels a little one sided when beaten or finishing down the order. Is there a way of enforcing two tyre compounds? 

Just join a league with two compound rule

There are a few, Preston Racing, which I race in, use the rule in the top two tiers. (we let rookies get used to the game first). It works well. 

My league uses a 2 tyre rule but with slightly different rules to most of the other leagues. We find its better using our rules. If you're interested, look up Fighting Spirit
