I think it would be a good idea to update the blogs alot more and let people know what is going on so they dont freak and leave when things go wrong..

Yes, definetly 1+
We're in a social media age, the admins should also use Facebook and Twitter a bit more, to keep their players happy and informed, and start building a community (and possibly more players).

If the admins don't have enough time, get somebody to do it (if there'd be a voluntairy position for it, I'd love to apply).

It's tricky. During routine maintenance we tend to use Twitter / Facebook, but during any issues that's not really practical. The forum acts as more of a central hub in those moments, where we can read what people are experiencing and respond to it instantly (this is also why we merge the threads, to centralize all discussion on it, not to "hide" things as some insinuated).

There is a problem though that the forum is not obvious enough. Ideally we would have an automated system that detects if something is not right and then puts up an automatic announcement (site-wide) of what the procedure will be instantly. This would ensure people get quick and relevant information regardless of where they are on the site. I have been thinking about how to tackle that lately. But we're thinking more about how to stop the problems from happening in the first place!

We're going to be working exclusively on this for the next week at least, so it's a good time to put in any suggestions.

True, but to give an example; the livery competition could have been held via Facebook, with people submitting entries there, and iGP could make an album with the five selected liveries. Then, the one with the most likes would win.

At least it should have been announced there. I submitted the blueprint livery (albeit in a different template) on some Facebook pages and it accumulated some 300+ likes across. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=485341751532874&set=a.105786456155074.8165.102855529781500&type=3&theater

What I'm suggesting is slightly different than the opening poster, but in my opinion, Facebook and Twitter should be used more.

Great idea my understanding is that this has been put foward before and the Devs just dont have the time at the moment to use FB and Twitter to thier full usage.

And not everyone wants to be associated with Facebook and Twitter.

That is true.
