Elite season 89
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Last seasons Pro Champion Kallum makes his first appearance in Elite and runner up Jason returns after only one season in Pro to fill the spaces Izan and Julius left after being relegated.
Sandeep the current champion was looking for his third consecutive title, Bry, Smoky and Esko all knowing they have the capability and the team to end Sandeeps run had their sights on the top spot and this season was kicked off in Britain, and once again it was Frank who sets the pace with the first pole of the season but it was Bry who got the first win with a very strong first race pace he gets a 1-2 and maximum points with Sandeep completing the podium, both Smoky then Esko behind them and a good first race for Bostjan things looked good for league legend Bry.
Russia was next and Bry continued to show strength by getting pole position but it was Smoky who got the win with Esko closely behind him, with a 1-3 Smoky had moved within 7 points of the leader Bry into 2nd place with Sandeep only 9 points behind him. Bostjan, Darren and Dean were all on the scoreboard and not far behind Esko in 4th place.
Japan saw Smoky not only lock out the front row, but he converted that into a 1-2 and leaped above Bry into the top spot! Sandeep completed the podium and it looked like a 3 horse race as Esko started to slip back.
Next was Australia and once again Smoky converts a pole into a win beating Esko by 0.3 secs and completing the podium was Bostjan! Scoring well and trying to secure that 5th position but with Darren also getting both cars into the points he still had a fight on his hands.
With another pole for Frank and another win in Malaysia for Smoky who now looked on fire and was now 51 points clear of Bry and 85 points clear of Esko who had taken 3rd place from Sandeep. Another good performance from Darren as he jumps Bostjan into 5th place by only 1 point.
In Canada it was Bry who took the fight to Smoky's dominance, after locking out the front row he managed to get maximum points again, comfortably beating Esko who completed the podium but with a no show from Smoky Bry was now only9 points behind him and in the perfect place to apply the pressure. Both Darren and Dean scored well as Darren started to move away from Bostjan and Dean started to move towards him.
A wet and boring race in Monaco but once again maximum points for 12 time champion Bry and he jumps back into the top spot. Keith managed to get himself on the scoreboard with his first point of the season.
Belgium next and a surprise pole from Dean but even more of a surprise was the winner, Darren gets his first win of the season with a fantastic drive, getting both his drivers on the podium with a 1-3 Darren now was looking to fight for 4th place as he started to extend the gap to Bostjan and Dean behind him. Lamont gets his first points of the season.
Frank gets his 3rd pole of the season in China and Smoky manages to get a comfortable win after a close fought battle with both Esko and Bry but with 9 races past, both Esko and Sandeep were still unable to get a win, the only 2 managers to have won a title in the previous 5 seasons were now looking at the title battle from below as Bry and Smoky continued their form.
But a first win for Esko wasn't far away as in Brazil he managed a 1-3 moving him back into striking distance to Smoky who was only 8 points clear after another race was missed. Darren managed to score big points with a 4-5 and was now only 47 points behind the current champion.
Bahrain saw Frank lock out the front row with his 4th pole of the season, showing great speed in the qualifiers but unable to find the race pace needed to stick with the top teams. Darren managed to win his second race of the season showing great pace this season he had now moved to within 34 points of Sandeep. Esko gets 2-3 to complete the podium and move to 2nd only 39 points behind Bry and with another race missed Smoky had now dropped to 3rd place. With only four races left, 7 managers had yet to score a point and the fight against relegation was now looking a very busy one.
Mexico provided the current champion Sandeep with his first win of the season and with Darren hot on his tail this was a welcomed win but with Darren completing the podium in 3rd place the battle was still on. A great race from Jason gets him 4th place and his first points of the season.
With the top three still in with a chance for the title the last three races were looked exciting and first up was France, both Esko and Smoky knew they needed to score well here to be able to keep the pressure on Bry and hope that Bry didn't score so well, with Sandeep taking pole and all using different strategies it was Bry who took the win, Sandeep just behind and Smoky completing the podium. Craig scores his first point of the season.
Italy next and Bry only needed to score decent points to secure the title, Lamont gets pole position but the race was a great battle between the top three as all three got on the podium, Smoky, Bry then Esko. Bry seals his 13th championship and shows why he such a legend in the league.
With the title decided the last race was still something to look forward to, a new track, U.S.A! And with 3 managers who still had not gained a point all season, the fight against relegation was on, and it was between Frank, the Pole Sitter! His son, Dario and last seasons Pro champion Kallum.
Smoky wins the race with Sandeep getting 2-3 behind him, Smoky moved into 2nd place and pushes Esko down to 3rd. Sandeep closely behind as he had a strong finish to his season and Darren comfortably holding 5th place Frank managed to survive the drop as we say goodbye to both Kallum and Dario we make way for Pro champion Yukina and runner up Jimmy both making a return to the league.
So congratulations and well done Bry! Season champion! 13 titles with this team alone, it has been a pleasure racing against it and we are looking forward to racing your new team next season.
Can Smoky continue his fantastic form and push for his first ever title in the league? Will Sandeep or Esko be able to find their winning ways and move back up to the top spot? Is Darren the new rising star? With a fantastic season and some great race management this season could he battle for the title?
Season 90 looks like a good one ;)
