Hi!
I have some questions but first the facts.
I have this driver https://igpmanager.com/play/?url=team-driver/133572 who I developed from the young driver academy and has level 20 talent and level 16 overall.
My car has 5 components 100% and 1 at 96%.
I spent a lot of seasons in my current league and I tried a lot of strategies for every race.

I sacrifised and developed the car during my last seeason so I would be comfortable at this season. The season started with a win and so I was confident I would be very strong at every race considering the facts. But after 10 races I have "only" 3 wins, which is not so bad but the worst part is I get beaten up by drivers with level 9 and with cars that are not as developed as mine and with exact same strategy! I am also around half a second slower in qualifying..! Another weird fact is that I dominated in Monaco and yesterday I struggled to get 5th place in Hungary which has similar characteristics!
I the past I was thinking that I didn't have a high overall level for my driver, or low level on the design of the car, or a bad strategy... But this season everything has come together and still I don't see the dominance and consistency that others have had during the past seasons with the same strategies and lower level drivers and managers!
I really don't understand what is relevant for the perfomance on track... I have been racing for over a year now and in an everyday league since November and I have even bought a one year subscription.. So I like the game and invested a lot of time in it but still something is not adding up! Even my budget is made correctly and I have 800 million until now.

Finally, if you check on my driver's stats you will see that he has done 74 races and got 3 wins but if you see lower in the team stats it says he has done 78 races and got 4 wins for my team...

Looking at your driver it looks to me like he is overtrained. This ofcourse is only a theory, but it seems to be consistent with many of the top players.

In my opinion:

Mental is too high.
Technical is too high.
Physical isn't maximum (crucial and important)
Defending isn't maximum.
Attacking is quite low.

As I say, only theories, because other than the developers no one really knows what does what, but generally speaking a lot of us are finding that mental and technical are rather bad and drivers become incredibly inconsistent when you start training it.

Take a look at one of my drivers for example..

To me this driver is perfect. Incredibly consistent and one of the best drivers I've ever had.

This driver was good, but as soon as I maxed out his mental and technical training he just became slow and incredibly inconsistent. I know he has 17 talent, but back when I had this guy was when 17/18 talents were the highest you could get, so the comparison is pretty fair.

Thanks Jason for this analysis!
I noticed a lot of times that consistent and dominating drivers are like your first one..! But it doesn't make sense why this is happening! :(
I would really like an explanation from the developers on this one. I have spent so much time and effort to find and develop an overall good driver and it doesn't seem to follow any logic.. And it is especially annoying when much lower level drivers go much faster than mine in qualifying and race with same strategy!

And if Jason's theory is correct I will have to wait forever for Mental and Technical to lower in value over time. So maybe I should hire another driver already and train him the "right" way..! Very frustrating after so many seasons of preparation!!!

The levels for mental and technical aren't maxed out so perhaps it will only take a few lvls down on those skills to get the consistency back. Had the same thing with a driver in another team of mine. He started to loose groud on his team mate but then I stopped training mental and technical. He got beaten that season but since then he's on the way back, won another championship and starts to kicks ass again.

Before you have a new driver on a high level you might just as well sit this one out and it will probably be faster.

Perhaps they start to think to much, overrate themselves or whatever. At least they go wild on gear ratios and wing levels causing the setup to be bad.

So could it be better to leave the setup in default and not listen to the driver..?

I'd say train attacking, defending and physical to max and ignore the others but don't ditch the driver. Or since you are in a one car league and level 12, fire your second driver and hire  a new or from YDA or market to train 'properly'

Not having max physical is the biggest killer. Max that out again first and see how you go.

How can you fire a second driver if you're in a one car league? When you join a one car league you're forced to fire the second driver. Would go train the attacking, defending and physical, focus on physical first.

Default setups often are not the winning thing. Do wonder what will happen if you would let the driver use a setup from a previous season. Because, does the driver only think he should mess up things like the gear ratios or can't he actually drive properly with a good setup anymore? That's what I wouldn't know.

Anyone can join a one or two car league, doesnt depend on being a subscriber. :)

Only thing is you can't hire a second driver in a one car league but nobody can.

Well physical is not maxxed out but stamina and reflexes are in 18, so it's pretty close. The driver loses only 0.1 health per lap when he is not pushing so I don't think physical is going to make a big difference if I max it out..

I tried with the default setup and I got the biggest gap so far this season in qualifying and race comparing with the first drivers in both sessions..! So I guess I will follow his instructions for now and focus on training physical, attacking and defending.
Thanks a lot people!
