It shouldn't be possible. I don't think this is an exploit I think it is a bug which seems to happen occasionally so I will move this thread to the "Bugs" section.
You've got about 2 hours to sort it out. If the manager is prepared to leave and immediately re-join the league before your first race his design should reset to the correct value based on his active CD and the number of races last season.
