Every time I have to look at obsolete stuff like trailers, recoomendations and 'FREE TO PLAY'. I'd rather have the frontpage take me to the game instantly, if I'm logged in.

Thing is we shouldn't have to. It would be nice if we weren't treated as guests when we are members.

Forcing people in to the game without a choice, also implies that they must log out to see iGPManager.com, is an inconsistent and confusing behavior. That's generally a no-no to avoid confusing people, you want things to be as consistent and predictable as possible.

But I'd like to get a better understanding of the situation before making any conclusion. I'm curious why anyone would persist with opening the wrong page if it wasn't the one they wanted to go to. Could you explain what is the motivation behind that behavior so I can get a better understanding of how/why it's creating an inconvenience? Also why are bookmarks seen as a silly idea?

I have the site bookmarked to my login page and haven't even noticed where it starts off - lol!
But the above is very interesting in trying to understand how players navigate the pages and what they find 'annoying' or cumbersome.

Would it be useful if more people commented on this - whether they have a problem or not?

I think if the frontpage is examined in Google Analytics it'll show 90% of the visitors leaving within 2seconds.
It's a guess but I think it'll be close to that, which should show something is wrong with the page.

Well..... If people don't like it.. Come up with something or create a new thread for the artistic ones amongst us to come up with some nice front page art work... :D

I'm guessing that the images that could be used will have some sort of league garbage about them.. so make them with either no sponsors or use the current official ones.. Image Space and so on.

What does the frontpage have to offer that the "Home" page doesn't? They have exactly the same content, apart from the "Home" page isn't advertising the game?

Why would you want to advertise a game to people who are already playing it?

I'm just trying to understand why anyone would persist opening igpmanager.com if they wanted to visit igpmanager.com/play. What is the reasoning behind not bookmarking the desired page? And what is the restriction forcing anyone to go to igpmanager.com every visit?

The only other view I have on this was expressed above: that it's important to provide a consistent / predictable experience for the user, and not to add in unexpected behaviours or force them to logout to see igpmanager.com.

A new website was developed months ago, pending release with the design update. It looks a lot better! I was never happy with the current design, it was more of a placeholder than something I put a lot of effort in to.

I'm just trying to understand why you would take members to the front page when they would benefit more by going to the home page. Because the front page is for advertising the game quite clearly. "Free to play" in a banner with the games features, and testimonials on the right with "established" people telling them how good the game is. Why would a member want to view this? It's not like they don't know it is free to play by now.

When you log into gmail for example it doesn't take you back to the login screen when you visit the website. That's effectively what's happening here.

In the scheme of things this is a relatively minor issue. I understand that it may be frustrating, but I think the development team have greater issues to address.

I am sure though that when time allows this will be resolved

I'm asking questions in order to get insights in to how the site is being used. Deflecting questions back isn't helpful, it's not a debate and I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm trying to understand the situation / behaviour behind it.

Here are the questions again:

Sorry if it seemed that way.

When I type "igp" it auto completes as igpmanager.com, not igpmanager.com/play. Which is why I am always brought to the front page. What would be nice is if your signed in, it changes the url to igpmanager.com/play. This could even be an on/off feature in the settings.

The reasoning behind not boomarking it is because I am signed in as a member. Therefore I expect to be treated as a member, and not someone who needs the features of the game shoved in their face. Which is why the Home page is more useful to me, where it has notifactions, forum posts, info about the next race. Whereas the front page, as a member, is practically useless apart from the news, which you can view on the home page.

And Edwin, I know this isn't a serious issue, but not everything has to be serious to be addressed. Most things that are serious are obvious.

Thank you Iain for explaining the problem.  I think this has more to do with how your 'computer' works or how you use the system.
If you save the page in your bookmarks at the home page then this is what will load each time you log on.  There is no more time wasted in doing this as to typing in igp?   I don't know when I last visited the 'front page'.  I personally see no problem with bookmarking all the sites I frequently return too. I have visited other sites which operate as you suggest and it then becomes a nighmare to navigate away from the members pages, something I would not want in iGP!

Having said all that, it is interesting to know if this is an issue with other players or if there are similar 'niggles'.  As Jack says - the devs have to know what is bothering people so that the issue can be addressed.
