What did you try to do?
I tried to boost one of my cars

What happened instead?
The app forced closed and I had to open the game again

Did the problem happen while using wi-fi, mobile data, or both?
Wi-fi

Did the bug happen in the app, on PC, or both?

What is the model of your device?
Apple iPad latest edition

What is the operating system?
iOS

What is the version number of the operating system?

Can the bug be reproduced?
No idea but it happened several times in the race

Additional comments:
This is the 1st ever time it has happened to me

Hello Jim,
To help diagnose the issue can you answer these extra questions please:

1. How much RAM does your device have? 
2. Were any other apps open while you were in the race?
3. Did the race viewer suffer from lag during the race prior to it closing?
4. Did you have any issues loading the race? Did it take an unusually long time to load the race viewer the first time you tried to enter the race?

1. No idea It’s an iPad generation 7 
2. Not possible to have other apps open at the same time on an iPad

First time it has ever happened despite being present at a race every night for the last couple of months

I think I had the same problem as you just over a week ago, and the developer said that it is because my device didn't have enough RAM, causing iGP Manager to crash and close itself. 
However, your case is different because you didn't have 2 apps open at the same time, and therefore, there wasn't any other apps eating your device's RAM. 
Please can you comment on this thread after your next few league races stating whether you had the same problem- as it may have just been a one-off in your previous race. However, if it becomes a consistent problem, or multiple people begin reporting this issue, I will escalate this thread to the developers.
