Need input on why there was no option to switch to dry tires sitting on the grid before the previous race. Practice was 3mm, prior to qualy it had stopped raining and qualy itself the track was at .4mm and on grid it had dropped to .1mm and then 0.0 just before race start. I was still on inters for qualy but as i got to the race screen to change to dry tires the only option i had was Inters or Wets. I was fairly certain that i have changed to dry tires or from dry to wet previously in this situation but not 100% sure. Is it a bug or there is no option to switch to dry tires while there is still standing water?

Cheers.

Hello there Chris,

I'd like to ask you if you used the advanced strategy settings? If YES, could you tell me what did you set, please?

More important in this case, what was your tyre selection for stint 1 in your main strategy? This is the only "dry" compound you are permitted to change to on the grid. So if you want the option to fit dry tyres on the grid you must select one of the dry compounds for stint 1.

I am guessing you set stint 1 in your main strategy to Inters which is why you had no dry tyre option.

Yes, stint was on inters (no advanced strategy set). I didn't think that was relevant to being able to switch compound on the grid to be honest, seems pointless having it there if it works in one respect but not the other.

Thanks.

Yo Kev, so if you set your first stint to inters/wets in your strategy set up because you expect a wet start, but then it dries up between qualis and race start, is there no way you can switch to dry tyres while on the grid, or maybe we can do something in advanced set up so as to start on a dry compound? If so, what's the best thing to do, tnx.

It does work after a fashion but not in the way you want it to work. If you assume a dry race and set your main strategy accordingly but set the advanced strategy to Inters at 0mm then you should qualify on Inters but still have your first stint dry tyre available to you on the grid if it dries during qualifying.

This is your choice as a manager, it's just one of those gambles you sometimes have to make where the outcome is in the lap of the weather gods. It is very rarely necessary to need to start on dry tyres if it was raining at lockdown but stopped soon after. Usually the track takes a while to dry so the Inters will normally still be a good starting tyre. So choosing a wet compound for your stint 1 main strategy if it is raining just before lock down won't normally cause you a problem.

This is precisely what I did yesterday morning in Canada, I selected Inters for stint 1 because it was raining. Unfortunately it stopped raining as the system locked for qualifying and by the time the race started the track was dry but the only compounds I had available on the grid were Inters and Wets so I was stuffed. It's quite a rare set of circumstances and unless the devs massively alter the coding behind advanced strategy we'll just have to learn to live with it.

In the scenario where it's raining could you set your standard strategy to first stint dry and the rest wet, with advanced strategy as you mentioned above - inters @ anything above 0mm. This way if it's wet you qualify on inters and then if it dries between qualifying and race you have the option to choose a dry compound. Could this be a possible workaround?

Just in case you missed it or felt like i was ignoring you lol, no advanced strategy, just inters stints. In the past when the weather has changed i have been able to select a dry tire so i just assumed in this instance i would be able to as well but it seems it's only viable when the dry tires were selected for the first stint. Mostly i guess this is because dry tire mediums are default so if i haven't done an advanced strategy it will still apply.

Thanks for your time Gerard and Kevin.
