If you where managing tyres and fuel in the race, by pushing and backing off in different sections of the circuit. 
You would find that live chat in the race is a distraction. 

So on that note, I agree.
Chat is very much needed. I might can get a win!

Also, we do have the private messaging medium on here which could be extended for group chats if that is viable, but I doubt that would happen

Some leagues uses other things like Discord that work perfectly fine. Maybe try to get your league to create something like that.

I've been using Discord for my league for a long time, and my league name alone uses the word "Discord".

but you know, the old people, some of our parents, can't understand how to use with Discord or don't believe it's needed, and some busy guys don't have enough space to install the app.
