Qualifying tire temperature

In the new tire scenario, does the tires are set at the optimal temperature at the beginning of the qualifying session?  For example, it is possible to burn out the super soft tires at the qualifying session if the pace is set to 5 "PUSH HARD"??

ive been using super softs in qualy with 4/5 (be agressive and push hard)
when the race starts im still optimal temp and with 100% tyre quality.

obviously when i attend a live race, i would have to switch to 1/5-2/5 to prevent the SS-tyres burning up during the race.

but from what ive seen, qualy doesnt seem to affect the race tyres.
im guessing races start with a different set of tyres, although I would LOVE it if they were affected by qualy strats.

qualy only takes 2mins before the results are up, so I don't think its even calculated as a "session".
I get the feeling qualy is decided on a 1lap basis.

I actually hope im completely wrong about all this :D and for the pros to tell me how it should be done :)

ive always avoided using 5/5 (take big risks) as I get the feeling it would produce too many mistakes on the one lap, and make lap times more random.
again I look forward to extra info too :P

Fairly sure that your race instructions (fuel, risks, etc.) have no influence at all on qualifying.


From the Rules:

3.5 Qualifying
Qualifying runs automatically 10 minutes prior to a race
You can not manage your cars during qualifying
The chosen tyre compound for Stint 1 will be used for qualifying
Qualifying is conducted on low fuel with tyres at optimal temperature
DRS and KERS are not permitted for use on qualifying laps
Each driver gets one qualifying lap on a clear circuit

No mention of risks affecting the lap.

Your predetermined push level used to be used for qualifying, but now qualifying laps are always done on 5/5 push level.

James, are you sure of this??  If so, then Super Soft tires should gave an advantage during quali. Right??

Unless the devs changed it without telling anyone, yes, I'm sure.

I used Super Softs in quali yesterday in Hungary (20°C) and was on pole by about a second. (Everyone else started on either Softs or Mediums.)
