Hi igp community,

I don't know how you feel about this matter, but i myself am indecicive over the hoarding "problem" of design points and i have a possible solution to prevent the hoarding if wanted by the league host.

On the one hand it is a legal and legitimate strategy to save your points. Let the developers do the research. Then, after some races you can put all saved points into your car. And voila, you are extremely competitive.

On the other hand i can understand the managers who are heavily pissed off about this strategy, as it only works if not everybody is doing it and some "pioneer" the way in developing their car regularly, so the hoarders can scoop the big % points.

As i said, I'm indecicive about the matter, but i would like an option as a host myself, to regulate this behavior in my league. Some managers are pissed and i would regulate it if possible.

I know it is hard to monitor, this is why i have a suggestion for cutting unused designpoints:

Possibility 1 (the harder fines)

If somebody uses their designpoints after every race, its fine. But if they stack it for one extra race, there could be a fine of 10% of your design points .
If you stack them for another race, the fine is 20% of the saved points, 30% for the next and so on...

For example:
After 1 Race : 20 points
After saving 2 races: 40points, but you lose the fine of 10% =36points
After 3: 56 (36+20) - 20% (11 Points) = 45
After 4: 65 (45+20) - 30% (19 points) = 46
After 5: 66 (56+20) - 40% (26 points) = 40

So after 5 races hoarding would be a decrease in design points. This is the harsher possibility.

Another possibility is a 20% fine from the second race on every race :

40 points after 2 races - 20% (8points)= 32
52 points after 3 races - 20% (10p) =42
62p, 4 races - 20% =50
70p, 5 races - 20% =56
And so on

There also could be 10% fines every race or whatever.

You would solve the hoarding problem, as it isn't as attractive to collect the points and you would force players in playing more often.

As i said, there should be an option for hosts. Switch on for this solution, switch off for the usual.

I hope this is understandable. I'm good with English, but not that perfect 😁

Keep on racing 🏁

Very complex solution and how would you apply the percentage penalties to someone who uses part of their design allocation but saves some in order to maximise research.

Surely if you want to discourage hoarding a simpler solution is to limit the number of design points that a team can hoard. If this limit were to be selectable by the host it would allow leagues to apply local rules rather than impose them on everyone.

You are right, it's a little complex... I don't think this exactly has to be the solution.
And the fines would apply to everyone in the league. Also to the ones who save some points for later. I don't think it would be possible to select these people out.

We as a league have the problem, that some players who aren't that competitive (or just guys who don't play live very often) save points for ~10 races, adjust the research after every race to maximise and then blast the points worth 10 races at once. Then they are extremely conpetitive, sometimes winning races and don't relegate, as they surely would have done in normal conditions.
Its not fair for the guys who try their best every race and compete regularly and relegate instead.
We are looking to apply a gentlemens agreement for next season to stop this. But what if there are not that much gentlemen? 😏

That's why there should be the option to choose if you want this solution for your league or not. So to speak local rules. Surely not every igp manager wants this. But many do. And they could join leagues who use it.

But a simpler solution is fine. I just want to start this conversation to limit it in any way 😊

Maybe you could say: save the maximum of 2, 3 or 4 races, then the points have to be applied. Maybe I'm just thinking to complicated in that matter 🤔

I tried hoarding points as I recently read about it giving you an edge, my personal experience is it doesn't really work then maybe I'm doing it wrong. You seem too suffer for a few races and I cannot get good points during the hoarding phase and technically it does work and I do get good results. My point is does it not cancel itself out with weak results for a few races giving you status quo?

It is the "extreme hoarders" like Em Gee describes that can cause problems. They are never going to become champions but by doing this they can have a very competitive spell at the end of the season.

This allows them to avoid relegation when managers who are lower level have been struggling all season to escape the relegation zone. They may also interfere with a close title battle by taking the big points positions late in the season.

The thing is, the game allows it and some will make the point that it's therefore a valid strategy so people should stop complaining and live with it. The sensible solution would be a limit that is set by the league host because this would allow every league to do what they feel best for them.

The host of a league I compete in has a rule that says at the start of a race no attribute can be more than 30dp higher than the strongest team at the start of the previous race. Someone is tasked to check the design values of the strongest team immediately before the race then the maximum for the next race is posted on the league wall for everyone to see. This means managers can hoard as many points as they want but they're restricted in where they can be used.

Maybe it would be simple to add a cap for spending DP..... for example you are allowed to spend 30/40/50 DP each reach..... so if you saving more, you will not be able to use all for one race

Never realised this happened as I always have used my design points after every race. Could be why, in my league, there is one dominant team that wins every race. Not sure of the solution though. Maybe the modulators could remove the ability to hoard design points.

Disagree...... hoarding DP is a strategy part in iGP..... but they should limit the use of points.

For low lvl teams it is necessary to do it 🙈

That's exactly what I did Kevin, I tried hoarding for 5 races which with your comment makes perfect sense. I was useless for 7 races then came back and won my first championship in 7 years of playing this game lol I much prefer to just add all points after every race

I have never understood why people are against it. You're never going to be able to win anything using a strategy which involves your car being terrible for half a season; and its a good way for lower levelled players without the facilities to compete, to maybe snatch the few points needed for survival towards the end of the season if they are clever about things. Back when I was new to the game and got promoted to Elite at level 14, had I not been allowed to spend my points in a strategic way, I would have gone straight back down again.

I think that the main reason (at least it is the main reason for me) why many people hate DP hoarders, myself included, is that they make races super predictable and boring and it personally kills my mood for racing. Why would i join a race if i know beforehand that someone will win and be +2 sec per lap faster?  Its not even about them being  championship contenders (someone who skips +10 races will never win a championship anyway) but its just dull for 1. The DP hoarder (being 2 sec/lap faster than the rest isnt fun lmao) and 2. For everyone else who has no chance of fighting in more balanced conditions.

Maybe it's not that extreme for people under level 17, since they dont really have their team maxed out, but it really sucks when you have a level 20 in your league doing that, cause you simply cant compete against them; not only for the one race that they decide to use their DP on, but also on the following races if they decide to race.
I think that the best solution for the hoarding issue is to give hosts the option to set the max DP that teams can hold through the season, that way everyone would be happy - if you dont like a league that doesnt allow much hoarding, move to a league that is more lenient with hoarding.

Sounds interesting. But how do you check from outside the exact number of points for the best team? You can only see the bars. Where is there an exact number?

You need to use the "inspect element" tool in a browser. If you play exclusively on a phone you can't do this. Providing you have at least one member of your league who uses a PC they can be tasked with policing the rule.

Oh nice. I will check it out myself the next time I'm around a laptop. I'm on vacation right now.

And i like the suggestion from yukina, there should be a max of points you could hold at the same time.

Therefore you can't excessively hoard and there is the small possibility to play with some nuances in development... I really hope such an option for hosts will be considered 🙏

To do away with people saving up their points, why not just make all the design areas equally important. This way you will be forced to use the points as soon as you get them. The likes of Murk and Tifosi can save their points because other suppliers strengths are not as strong as theirs.

Do you mean this idea? The one I gave as an alternative to your complex solution?..

Surely if you want to discourage hoarding a simpler solution is to limit the number of design points that a team can hoard. If this limit were to be selectable by the host it would allow leagues to apply local rules rather than impose them on everyone.

I check it out with the browser addon. But this sounds more complex than a cap on unused design points. (if it would be feasible to program it)

Somebody has to check all that before the start of the race and impose penalties afterwards i assume. Too much to keep track.

I like the suggestion from user yukina minato in this comments (the one with the swedish flag)
Give them a max of dp the can hoard and that's it. The host of the league decides.
Isnt that complex like my stupid idea 😁
But would be very effective i think
