A nice advancement would be in the league settings to create the rules for the league:

My examples:

So could be an option for 2 tyre rule - on or off (game forces a last lap pit if not obeyed)

Then an option for how many of each tyre for a race

A compulsory tyre in the race (eg you could say the hards have to be used for a stint)

An option for refuelling - yes or no

An option for qualifying fuel going into 1st stint

An Engine or Part Limit for the season with Grid Penalties if not obeyed etc (This could also give a new meaning to reliability and cooling - better stat decreases wear)

Just a few examples, of simple customisations that could be made, I’m sure some of you can think of a few useful ones also

These suggestions have been around for a while, but it's something we're considering seriously now our focus is shifting to gameplay updates. There are several challenges to implementing rules though. How would you expect this to be displayed in the league select list UI, for example? I know that might sound like a question that should be thrown straight back to us, but I'm interested in how the players would expect such information to appear in the game. It's very easy to keep adding widgets and features without considering the implications for the UI / UX, ending up with a totally overwhelming experience for new players that increases churn rate and puts them off.

We were thinking aloud about this the other day and threw around some ideas like having these leagues be private, so that they don't confuse new players, or only available to managers above a certain level, or unlockable in some way. It could even be that we integrate it at the level of tiers, e.g. Pro and Elite tiers can have rule changes but perhaps Rookie has a simplified / universal set of rules to help new players get in to the game. I think that would be my preference.

I'm open to suggestions. It's something we need to strike a balance with though, so those who want more depth can have it without alienating the newcomers, and vice versa, the game shouldn't be held back from having depth for experienced players just to please newcomers. Layering it in to the progression seems the most logical way.

Jack, new player churn must be a big issue in this game, mainly through managers becoming disinterested after a couple of days or perhaps disillusioned when they get promoted quickly to Pro only to find themseleves massively underpowered.

Have you considered putting all new joiners into separate beginners leagues (which are level capped, auto hosted by iGP and seperate to the normal peague structure) and then unlocking access to all other leagues once you reach say level 10?  This might ensure that those managers staying for the medium/long term only reach Pro (still need to gain promotion from Rookie) once they are at a reasonable level of development.  i’ve seen level 7’s reach Elite status and then find themselves competing with level 20’s with 500+ races which is just crazy and not good for the longevity of the game.  They quit very quickly and even if they try to find a less competitive league they are in a very bad position as they are now considered an Elite level team.

Hi, i'm glad to see that these options are now being considered, and I'm sure that a lot of people who also use special rules in their leagues are also glad to hear about it.

This is just a personal opinion, but how about adding a tyre icon and a gas station icon next to the leagues? If the leagues have enabled the tyre rules or refuelling then those icons would show in green or red (for example), and if they dont use tyre rules or refuelling then those icons would show empty or black (the idea is the same as in how the day icons are displayed; for example a league that races every single day has all the "MTWTFSS" letters appear in green, while a league that only races during the weekends will only display "SS" in green).
Also once you're in a league if you click on the "League Information" tab you could have an "Additional rules" section where it shows whether a league uses refuelling/tyre rules or not.

Most (if not all) the leagues that use tyre rules do it only for the Elite tier, so i think that the best solution here would be that the changes only affect the Elite tier - maybe in the future expand it to Pro as well if there's demand for it? Even though as i say i've never seen a league that uses special rules in Pro.

I think that this would be the perfect balance, because newcomers would still use the default rules and by the time they reach the Elite tier they'll hopefully be skilled enough to understand the changes that they'll face, plus all the veterans could experiment with the newly implemented rules. This way you'd allow progression and you wouldn't need to make leagues private or anything of the sort, since Rookie wouldn't be affected.
These are just my 5 cents, if someone else has other ideas in how to implement the rules hopefully they'll also contribute with their ideas.

Very good ideas indeed. I would suggest some league-subtabs, not really playable league options, but for a more immersive league feeling. The league is your home in igp so it should feel like it as well

1) improved standing tab with some graphs giving an overview of the current season (a lot of leagues already to this by themselves via excel)

2) rules page as the info on league tab is very limited (200 characters or so). This could be plain text IMO, just some room for the host to clarify rules and reasons why a penalty or the inevitable kick might happen

3) a league hall of fame would be very nice too

4) get to know the host, maybe a bit of info about the host?

So I added my 5 cents to the tally ?

Hi Jack,

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

In terms of display, on the league info could there be a second tab for rules, which has them all and possible a difficulty level at the top, so if there’s none or maybe a 2 tyre rules it’s rated green/easy then if there’s a few then amber/medium and then for more complex rules red/hard?
And when they click to join the league it comes up with the rules page so they understand and have to click confirm.

Personally, I think you should scrap rookie, pro and elite and like mentioned above have some leagues run by yourself automatically for beginners, maybe say only players that have under 100 races can be in them. And you could further use the leagues’s average player rep to give them a difficultly level also, so when people are looking at leagues they can see how competitive they will be and again maybe after the beginner leagues after they’ve done 100 races and joining a new league they only have the option to join leagues up to a certain league rep so they don’t go into a too competitive/experienced league?
Maybe the only way out of these options is if they are invited to a league by a friend etc (for experienced players making new accounts)

People lose interest quickly if they’re not winning or doing well and I remember myself going into elite at level 14, into a competitive league, it took me about 3 seasons to just get a point but I kept on going, but most people would give up if the best they can get is like 15th, lol. Also with the auto kick, rookie and pro soon lose their players and then no promotions to elite will stop people from playing.

I would also scrap levels maybe and maybe headquarters so everyone is on an even playing field like everyone being level 20 anyway. This way they can’t be too far behind I guess and maybe for the boost and drs strength they reset and can be improved like with car development.

I know it’s very difficult for you, because you need to make the game easy for beginners, so they’re competitive so they stay interested in the game then for the experienced players you want it to be as complex as possible so there’s skill to be the best ?

Maybe at the beginning of each season, every player gets an email ‘Great season, here’s some tips’ with a link to the ‘how to be competitive guide’ on the forum, to help players get better, especially beginners.

Just wanted to say thanks for the continuous hard work you guys are doing behind the scenes with limited people/resources. This is one of the only games to have kept me interested for many years now. Gotta be honest the 3D thing isn’t for me, but you have done a great job of altering the tyres/fuel to improve strategies, so more than 1 strategy can work at each track instead of everyone being on the same one. Really enjoyed it since the update?

Building onto this,

How about a weather option also:
Dry
Wet
Real life
Dynamic (like in F1 on game consoles)
