Why is it you can change tyres at star of a race if it starts raining, but not be able to change them when it stops raining???
Really frustrating!!!!!

You can change tyres if it stops racing but the only dry compound available to you is the one you selected for the first stint in your main strategy.

Therefore, if you set either of the wet tyre compounds for stint 1 in the main strategy there will not be an option to switch to a slick tyre on the grid.

You can switch tyres to the two rain compounds and the compound chosen for stint 1 if it stops raining. So to have a dry compound available you have to set up one for stint 1.

Edit: Too slow, I'm a single core and can't multithread without delaying tasks (am at work).

That makes sense now, so what if you setup a race for example to start on inters? If you use adv strategy shouldn't it then allow you to change?

It does allow you to change, but the only dry tyre available is the one you selected for stint 1 in the main strategy so this must be a dry compound if you want the option to change to slicks on the grid.

This is what I do (others may approach it differently)... If it's raining as I get close to qualifying lock down I have a look at the water level and use this to inform me which wet compound to use in the advanced strategy.

If water level is above 3.2 mm and rising I normally set advanced strategy to Full Wets above 0 mm
If water level is below 3.2 mm I normally set advanced to Inters above 0mm.

In both cases I leave the advanced strategy to fit the wets and set the tyre compound for the first stint in the main strategy to the slick compound I would want to run if it were a dry race.

If you do this and it stops raining after lock down you will be able to choose between both wet compounds and the dry compound you selected for stint 1.

A word of warning... If you attend the race this disables advanced strategy during the race so you must remember to check the tyre compound is correct for each of the pit stops.

We've all come out of the pits on Softs when it's tipping it down with rain because we set our main strategy for a dry race. I've done it on more than one occasion and had to get well away from the laptop to stop me launching it out of the nearest window.
