I've just put the new league select page live now, see what you guys think. :) It should be especially useful for new players, who were confronted with a wall of leagues before, and not much insight in to what was going on.

What's new?

New players are greeted with a brief tutorial explaining the league system in iGP

A simple search filter will guide you to leagues at a relevant time and on relevant days

Leagues are selected not just by day/time relevancy, but are also heavily filtered based on reputation levels, meaning you should find good competition in the recommended leagues

Only the five most populated leagues matching all criteria are displayed

The actual activity level in the league is displayed, not just the number of people in the league, more accurately informing decisions

It is no longer necessary to visit the league page to join, members can simply click "Join" on the page

Race days and times are displayed instead of the league description, removing clutter

Race duration is displayed as an estimated time, rather than a %. Again, more useful to newcomers who probably don't know what the % represents
If you want the old format, simply click "See more options" in the top right corner.

As I am currently using my other team in the league. I can see what you mean by the new look with this account.

Simple yet effective I think. It gives the new and current managers a nice short cut to get straight in to some good racing.

In this version there is no longer the good old option "show full leagues" that I found useful in some circumstances.

I'm happy with my leagues but it looks good should I be banished from one of them.

Only thing that really and truly bothers me about the new League Select page is that the times of day are listed in reverse on the drop-down element. Starts at 11PM (first option) and counts backwards by one hour all the way to midnight.

Most people race in the evening so that's probably why it's that way. Nobody really races at 3am in their timezone. :p

That was the thinking, Jonathan.

Some statistics on what the change has done:

The average number of teams per league has increased by 10%. This means fuller grids, with more activity.

The total number of leagues has decreased by 11%. This is good news, because the leagues struck off by this update had low-quality, low-attendance grids, some full of inactive accounts. These leagues are now being removed, one by one, as people are directed to genuinely ative leagues and the system shuts down these "ghost leagues" automatically due to inactivity.

Leagues are no longer able to hide behind their number of members, they need race attendance. The thing that qualifies a league to be displayed high on the list now is genuine attendance and participation, not just the number of accounts (active or inactive) in it.
The best way to run a popular league now is to get high race attendance figures, and you'll be bumped to the top of the suggested leagues list for people searching for a league.

What are the prerequisites for the system to automatically shut down "ghost leagues"? My current league is soon to be a ghost league - there's only myself and one other manager who are active, and I decided I'm not coming back for another season (largely because our league is dead and none of the other leagues suit my schedule and playing preferences).

If none of the accounts in the league have logged in within a week, it gets closed automatically. I think it also does that if only one account is logging in, since that would also represent a dead league. Or it might not, because I think we had to factor in a league might be new, and only have the host at first. :P
