While in rookie division it is advisable to change engine every 2/3 races while you build up your account.

I am pretty sure the driver will complain about car condition if it is not 100%...

Well, it is pretty simple, view how many races are in the league. We get 10 engines per 20 Races, My current league does 22 races. If I assume that I shall have 20 engines and 2 drivers at season start, then I would have the option to change the engine every 2.2 races. Though that is assuming you don't do the daily rewards, which may get you 1 or 2 more engines free, which may allow for you to replace the engine for a race that is not suited for your car, so a fresh engine would give you better odds.

You may also keep your eye on the store and look for a coin discount on engines, and budget for it, or buy them as is, tokens are gained from sponsors. As it stands now, the meta would be to sign with "iRacing"  for 3 tokens per race, while still receiving decent rewards. Then when it comes to parts, I advise you to repair the car or cars after every race, unless your position on the table is pretty much secure, then wear them out until 85% or so, on the basis that it leaves only 15% chance of failure.

Also always "Drain-Train" your drivers after each race, they should be 100% 2-3hrs before the next race. It will save you from wasting tokens on new drivers, as long as there are not less than 4 stars you should be okay, and try them young at 18-20.  I have had the same driver pair for 42 races or so. Full disclosure I have spent actual money on tokens, once or twice, on the 6 Tokens... Did a Drain-Train by mistake and was fighting for promotion and had run out of Ads. That's another tip, don't save the 10x config when you do a Drain-Train so that when you come back next session you don't make the same mistake. Then the other was to poach a level 20 driver whose manager was inactive and let the contract run out. Which again is another gem for you look for drivers in your league who are good but have inactive managers... Often a high-level manager joins the league then become inactive, but they have good drivers. Add them to your shortlist when they are on the auction list, then spend the 9 tokens.

It is as Jenalyn says, you're new to the game, you're in a Rookie tier, the competition won't be too fierce so you can get away with not renewing your engines every race.

You are currently competing in a one-car league, your engine reserve will be automatically restocked with 10 new engines every 20 races so you may as well change engine every other race because there's a limit to engine re-stock, it's a case of "use them or lose them".

A used engine will make the car slower but in the early stages of your iGP career there are more important things to spend your game cash and tokens on. When you get to Elite, if it's a competitive league and you have aspirations to win a championship you will need to renew the engine after every race. By this time you will be levelling up much more slowly so won't be constantly developing headquarters or renewing staff and will therefore have sufficient tokens to purchase engines to supplement your "free issue" stock.

You asked about engines so I will resist giving advice on other areas EXCEPT!!...
Get yourself a low level Talent 20 driver as soon as possible. The driver will  take a long time to train because of your low level but in a couple of months time when you're trying to win an Elite championship you will look back and be thankful that you invested in a Talent 20 driver so early.
