Connection issue

Hi,
Yesterday, the external server management installed an update on our servers. They decided to go ahead with it before receiving our approval or a scheduled time to do so, as it was a "critical" server security patch which they launched across their entire network. This caused a short outage that disrupted the service. We also weren't notified by the service that it was interrupted, because during the updates they took everything offline, including our notification service. We've been working with them for years and they were trying to do the right thing, installing a security update. But they really should have waited for our permission before performing these updates, and I will take that up with them. This is the second incident of this nature within a couple of weeks.

If I have the Race IDs I can confirm if this was the issue. We've been very busy on some updates and I wasn't notified or would have seen this sooner, sorry about the delay.

Very short-term, likely this week, we're introducing full Java 8 compatibility and races will resume rather than restart after any service anomalies (as of this morning, we're trialling this update on 20% of the service before rolling it out across the platform). All weather conditions will be reintroduced as soon as possible, hopefully alongside this.

Work is also ongoing on all of the major updates announced in the last blog, but those are longer term updates.

According to the software / service logs, everything ran fine tonight. As many people said, you could see it was running fine in the live timing window but couldn't connect. Other people were also able to connect just fine... odd. That suggests this was viewer-related, rather than service related, which is correlated with Simon's story of being able to connect with one viewer and not another.

So I've forwarded lots of information such as the time of this incident and the race IDs for investigation by the sim & viewer dev.
