High parts wear post-update?

It's felt for some time that as I increase my Manu, the parts wear goes up to keep me needing juuuust a bit more so I have to watch ads. That doesn't feel honest. I don't mind watching the ads, but when it feels that the dynamic of the game is shifted like a carrot on a string - what's the point of increasing your Manu?

For awhile I could watch all of the ads and come out with 1-2 excess parts each day. Then it became breaking even, and now post update, I'm running a deficit. My cars are requiring NINE parts each, when my manu is currently producing 8.

It was suggested to me that push can affect the parts wear, and perhaps I've been pushing more. So I ran a race without ever going above Neutral on either car -- Both still required nine parts, so no change.

What gives?

Is the game being adjusted to force players to watch ads AND pay to purchase tokens for parts to keep up?

IIRC parts usage is related to the level of your Design HQ. If you keep the Design and Manufacturing facilities at the same level by developing them in tandem, over the course of a season you should have a slight positive in parts.

At some of the faster circuits you will still have a deficit, but the slower circuits and wet races balance this out over the season.
