Currently even though tyre wear has been increased to match push levels, performance isn't dropping off considerably with wear, even if the tyres are below 30% life left. I thought the whole idea was to increase strategies, this isn't happening as the tyres are still performing well below the ideal 40% limit. Why should the S tyre at the end of the stint with 24% wear be just as fast as M with 40% wear on the same fuel load. In reality that would never happen, the S would be quicker at the start then degrade until the M became faster.
1. It's a game, it does not have to follow real life scenarios even though it may borrow some concepts. Also because it's a game it can never be perfect, there are just some things you'll just have to take as is.
2. Who says 40% is now the ideal limit? The whole point is for us to figure out what works 'now'. If Softs perform at 24% like you said, then you should adjust your strategies and take that as the new limit and play accordingly.
3. Tyres react differently in different temperatures. Most of the circuits are currently in winter, you can wait till it becomes hot and see if this is still the case with softs vs mediums.
The idea of the tyre update was to slow the S and bring in other tyres making more strategies possible, the update hasn't solved the problems they were hoping for, it has increased wear rates but without a drop in performance, so it's still status quo, they could of left it as it was.
Anyone can just pick S and do 2, 3 or 4 stop strategies, where's the fun in that, that's simple, it's why we have a 2 tyre league to add excitement, but the S is still proved to be too dominant.
I disagree. Personally I feel the update as a whole has been successful and has brought about some new out of the box strategies.
There are a lot of factors to consider as to why softs are the dominant tyres like you say... Pit stop, fuel load etc.
You can't expect mediums to make up so much time on softs even when the softs starts to degrade if they are on the same fuel load.
Using Turkey 100% as an example... Go to strategy was 3 or 4 stops on softs, now it's not (new and out of the box strategy prevails now). That alone imo is a huge plus for the update.
When it becomes hot in Bahrain, I'm sure softs won't be the ideal tyres...
So again, there are a lot of things to consider...
Edit: I checked your last race from which i think you are referring to the softs vs mediums battle.
Your mediums were considerably faster from lap 12 which is when I can assume the softs started to degrade.
