So, I know the idea of an entire weather overhaul is rejected. However, I do think that is still an issue that can be addressed. Out of my 10 races I’ve completed in my current season, 8 of them have been completely dry, 5°C. It’s the same weather almost every race. I understand that the weather is based on real-time accuracy, but I think there should also be the option to randomize weather. It could be switched on/off similar to the upcoming updates (fastest lap point, 2 tyre rule etc).

Medium tyres feel absolutely useless and hards are just a meme at this point. Tracks aren’t always be 5°C, I understand it may be a seasonal thing depending on the track but it is getting really bland. I would really love to race on notoriously hot tracks and actually have the in-game temp be blisteringly hot so we can have interesting strategies that don’t revolve around S and M tires.

On that note, does anyone else notice this or is this just coincidental?

The majority of circuits are are Northern hemisphere and many of these are in Europe. It is currently the middle of winter so naturally these circuits are going to be cold. To make matters even worse for you, your league races at 01:30 GMT, just about the coldest time of the day for the majority of circuits.

5 degrees is the lower limit in iGP which is why you see so many races at this temperature. Real life could be much lower but because of this hard coded minimum the races will happen at 5 degrees.

If you wait until the summer the temperatures will be much higher than they are now but your 01:30 GMT race time will still be an issue. Whether the higher temperatures will bring the harder compounds into play only time will tell. If the last few years are anything to go by the softer compounds on very low PL will still be faster. But the Devs recently tweaked the tyres so we can only hope that these tweaks will result in various winning strategies as the temperatures climb.

As mentioned in previous thread weather conditions are real time with a 15 minute delay subject to the cap.  However, reading Kevin’s reply above and particularly about you racing at 1.30am GMT made me think that this system really penalises anyone who is racing outside of the region they live in.

Maybe what I am going to say next would be too difficult to program, but we know the time all these circuits race in the real world so how about using the current weather system with a lag based on the time you are racing compared to the normal start time in real life for that race.

By way of example for UK race the real race time is 2pm GMT and if you race starts at 01.30 GMT the weather lag would be -11.5 hrs.

This would mean regardless of where you live and the time your league races you would race in more realistic weather for the track location at the time actual real races are scheduled.  An added benefit is that it would likely bring conditions where all compounds at some point will come into play making racing perhaps more interesting and might help solve some of issues currently experienced since the update.  The drawback would be that you could look up what the weather has been like and set up accordingly.  However, this isn’t too different to current situation where you can look up the forecast and rain radar for the time your race is scheduled and plan accordingly.

I don’t code games but would have thought a rule could be created to refer to the weather conditions recorded in the server database for races occurring at the same time as races happen in real life and then use these conditions for all races over the next 24 hrs.

Even if this proves too difficult to implement it might help someone come up with an alternative improvement.

Yeah, I understand why the temps are the way they are, but my time zone shouldn’t affect gameplay so drastically. That feels like the game specifically caters to one half of the world, but this is a game played across many countries around the globe. I’m not saying that they should remove the real-time weather detection, but rather implement an alternative for those who race at non favourable times like myself.

I just don’t think that time zone should make a drastic difference in gameplay from player to player. It’s not inherently a hinderance to my gameplay, but it IS boring. I can’t magically readjust my schedule in life just so I get normal temperatures in races.
