Greetings.

Does anyone know how I could monitor my ping or latency during live races?

I am playing from South Africa and expecting a ping of around 170ms~230ms. I am using League of Legends experience to make that guess. So it's very likely I am way off the mark. Hence I would like to see and test it out.

I have also observed when in live races, I experience lag spikes when I am racing in a busy part of the track. Last race in Belgium, I observed that in the area circled in red in the image below, the game got jittery slash laggy. I will admit it could be caused by hardware constraints. Especially if it's lap 3 and DRS and KERS are activated, the gameplay on my end is happening at x0.75 speed, and I get the "connection problem" banner for less than 2 secs or so, seldomly longer. For example, one moment I am navigating turn 1 at Spar then I rapidly or, Instant transmission like Goku, to halfway down the DRS straight. It sounds like jokes but I kid you not.

Ultimately, it has become a bit of a concern as I level up and become slightly more competitive. I am finding that the lag spikes are resulting in lost places on the track. In my league current season, in Austria. I was running in P5 & P6, and a lag spike later, I am running P8 & P9. Which had me rather triggered, as I actually could not do much about it.

Another, cause of concern, is the possibility that my Push Level Control my be diminished due to ping. If I am varying my Push Levels from turn to turn. And I even sound crazy when I say it to myself, but would my inputs not be delayed by at least ±100ms or so? ( I work with audio, where a 20ms~30ms delay can ruin a performance, drastically.)

Please do Note:

  1. I play on PC.

  2. I play on the iGPManager.exe (I do set up on the browser, play live on the install).

  3. I run my races in 2D.  (3D, is visually distracting... Especially when you're managing PL and the drivers are significantly apart.)

I don't think hardware is the problem, you could use some external tool for monitoring the network and check the response time that way.
The game is server based so you do need to have a good connection. If you can, try to play on smartphone (data) to see if it's better.

I am not sure if playing on mobile, and/or using mobile data, will make a difference. Purely, because one of the problems is still geographical. I am in South Africa, Johannesburg. As I mentioned that I expect "around 170ms~230ms".

Any chance you know the server's IP address so I could ping test it?

They have multiple servers so you have to find for yourself the one that are communicating with your device. You can get the IP address by watching a live race and using tools like wireshark (you should be able to spot the correct IP quite easily as the server will be constantly sending you data).
