I think that team owners should be allowed to decide the point system for their leagues.

For example, instead of the 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1, here are some other options that'd fit well:
10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 (F1 2003-2009)
10-6-4-3-2-1 (F1 1991-2002)

And this one not as likely but IndyCar style:
50-40-35-32-30-28-26-24-22-20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

and also have the option to have double points at 1 race of the season (finale like Abu Dhabi in F1 and  Indianapolis 500 in IndyCar)

Downside would be that there is also a points ranking in the Hall of Fame which would be inaccurate from then on.

Many people who like statistics are also unhappy with the point changes throughout the F1 seasons as it makes it almost impossible to compare the different era's properly. Perhaps there could be an equalizer in the point system but that's perhaps making it more difficult than it should be.

Personaly I don't realy see the point.

Does the HoF really matter?

I was looking at it and some of the people were only racing in small leagues with few cars etc and therefore winning lots of races etc?

Point system creates great impact on team and driver behaviour and strategy. Anyway here comes something much well done to try to equalize it:

It is quite interesting. Of course it was not meant to be an all-time-driver-ranking-tool.
