I am at a bit of a loss how much I should offer staff that I want to hire from the market.
There was a level 14 Doctor that had recently been released by one of the very best teams in iGP and I thought I would offer them 300,000. It wasn't enough and they told me to stop bothering them. So how much should I have offered to have stood a reasonable change of hiring them?
I am paying my chief designer just over 1 mil a year who I hired after they were relased by the same team a few months earlier. Is this too much?
I have the money but I don't want to pay over the odds or am I just being a scrooge?

There is a relation to how high the "Chance of success" is which is influenced by how good your relationship is but even then it's a bit of a gamble.
I tend to look at how much they are asking and take off a bit, about 1/3. If they are asking around 350k, I'm pretty sure they will accept 200k most of the time. When drivers are well trained for example, they often start asking in the range of 1,2M but most of the time they accept 800k also when the relationship is good.
Certainly on the drivers I tend not to take so much risk as very good drivers often don't come in large groups. With the other staff, you might want to take a bit more risk but I'm not sure how much further than the 1/3 you can push them as I hardly ever tried beyond that.

From Level 12+ I have always offered background staff 600,000 & they are yet to turn it down. Maybe I'm offering too much? But we is a midfield team most seasons so I need to sweeten the deal with bit extra pocket money to sign them :)
Tjerk Korving medal 5000 9 years 64 days ago
I'm at 500.000 for staff like Chief Designer and Doctor and that's with level 15 in my case.
Drivers just seem to demand more usually. And since I don't tend to let contracts run out and resign, at some point you have massive salaries like the 1,7M a race I'm paying my first driver. :)

I always ask for 60% of the price suggested.

Hi Eric, you'll need to offer $425K for that Doctor to accept your offer.
If it doesn't work, let me know.

To be honest, when you have as much money as anybody above L8 does, it really doesn't matter.
Tjerk Korving medal 5000 9 years 61 days ago
Well, to keep my design going I'm spending quite a bit actually. I'll break even near the end of a season but often just with 10M or so.
But that's mainly down to the fact that I'm not in a daily league which increases the amount of designers needed for a part. The shuffling around of staff to be able to generate new parts costs quite a bit. Six races in the season I'm on -7M, just to give a feeling for it.
Not that it realy matters when there's still 265M left but with expensive staff, that will dry up at some point if you don't keep an eye on salaries. :)

On one account (McLaren F1 Team) I'm at level 13 with 600+M :) I get 6M each race from the sponsors and spend about 3-4M a race.

Level 15 1,153,566,565 in the bank. Unless you change staff every race or spy a ton there is no way you should be losing money. I have a 2nd account that I use to develop new drivers that is level 13 with 621,237,916 in the bank (and it hires new drivers a fair amount so lots of signing fees paid). MWF league, 121 designers, 1 marketer, 46 engineers, 32 mechanics. I get 3-4 new parts per day depending on current season level, 1 car all new parts every other race (including engine), the other car gets new chassis, front wing, and suspension. paying 699k per staff (except marketer at 1k, drivers cost more)

Money is easy made even if you don't get your race objectives. You have no reason what so to be in debt or going into administration, signing the right sponsors to match you spending is easy, you will get from 1,500,000 to 730,000 a race.
WTF1, Foracer, InsideSimRacing, Obutto, Image Space Inc., iRacing.com, H2O2. 1,500,000
Outel Outside, Magnetic Umbrelli, Crack-coke, Throw da phone, Red Balls, Princefisher, Giggle. 1,060,000
Johnnie Jogger, King Burgers, McRonaldos, General Electro, Thomas Hillfinger. 730,000

Do keep in mind how much money you have and how fast you can build it up very much depends on how many races you have each week. Spendings are way less for every day leagues as designing is quite cheap.
If you are doing 3 days a week, desinging costs more over a longer period and since races are not that frequent, there are less days where money is coming in.
But, when you sign the good sponsor deals and don't hire loads of drivers, making money shouldn't be hard at all.
Quick saving might also be to just autosign a Commercial Manager and Technical Director as the cheap ones are no better than the pricy higher level ones. Does only go for those two staff members though.
Yunus Unia Blunion medal 5404 9 years 54 days ago
I don't even have a commercial manager anymore, since the commerce feature is still largely undeveloped. Kind of ridiculous how any low level max experience Technical Director can get the right prediction. Hell, if you document the max fuel consumption and never change fuel suppliers, even the Technical Director is not needed.

That's true. But somehow just like to have them and now that they did about 300-350 races for my team, I can't get myself to fire them. :D
James Greer medal 5000 9 years 54 days ago
Tjerk!!!
Can you tell me more about design cost over the long period?
Is it a fixed rate from day to day or is the design progress worked out the same race to race?
In everyday racing league it's 150,000 for 3 parts and 200,000 for 4 parts designed.
Merchandise sales is 649,448 race to race maybe it's daily I don't know.
I'm guess the income for Merchandise sales is doubled or trebled too over a longer period too.
I have no plans in changing to a league where you run less, I want to run more than once a day. hehehe I'm just nosey :)
