Currently the forum search system is hopeless as you\'ve probably noticed. Can we get it improved?

Doesnt sound like a very major issue, however it\'ll stop the same questions beign asked over and over as people will be able to see that another thread answering their question already exists.

i agree about same questions, but i think new people woudl rather ask than find out looking or searching through the forum....

i think its an inherant laziness of new people joining a game with established people....

\"Jake
Hopeless in what way?

If you try searching for a few terms you\'ll soon see what I mean. Its a very basic search implementation.

Here\'s one such example that took litterally 2 seconds to find. Lets take THIS THREAD for example. The title is \"Free Trials of 2D Viewer Increased!\".

Now, if I run a search for two of the key words in that title, it doesnt return that thread at all: http://igpmanager.com/play/?url=igp-search/forum/Free+2D

Obviously if you sit there messing about with your search string you may eventually get the thread you want, but this is a really simple thing that shouldnt happen. I\'ve developed forum systems, CMS\'s, blogs and all sorts in the past and its just giving the impression that someone couldnt be bothered so just used a quick SQL \"LIKE\" command on a bunch of tables.

Its also highlighting a few other bits and bobs that are a pain:
- No way to see your posts
- No way to subscribe to posts
- No way to get email notifications on replys to threads you subscribe to

All very basic and standard things to implement in a forum. Have you considered using an established and reliable system such as XenForo? It\'d mean you can focus on the game instead of a custom BB.

I think the devs are looking into this as it has been mentioned previously.
They just got more important things first.

Actually, I've just finished improving forum search. :D It will now scan posts as well as all thread titles for matches. More options for moderators have also been added, to move, merge and close threads.

The other suggestions will have to wait for now, but they will come in future updates. We did use vBulletin in the early beta but it wasn't integrated well into the site and it had tonnes of features we'll never use (massively inefficient). It made much more sense to build a lightweight forum system to free up as much power as possible for our simulator.
