What do you mean by "free"?  Is there a way to gift drivers or do they always need to be purchased through the transfer section?

If you click on the name of the driver you are interested in, you are automatically linked to the driver's profile. From the profile you can purchase them immediately at the cost listed under "contract". The term "free" refers to the fact that the driver has no team at the moment and can be purchased immediately without competition in the market.
