I didn't watch Q but i followed it on BBC live.....and frankly....i think it's simply stupid.

The new qualifying format seemed to achieve the same result, in a messier, sudden death kind of way.

It is like doubling the size of the goals in football in order to increase nt enumber of goals scored. ....sure you'll score tonnes of goals and "product" a lot of excitement, but in the end, it's still either win draw or loss...

Any team who suffers from a slight fault, or driver who makes a slight mistake,  has virtually the time of  5-6 laps, of which 2-3 hot laps, to fix it and set a passing time.

This gives little chance for teams who may have limited resources and finances for pre-season teesting to snatch a good grid position, and thus favouring the richer teams.

And also due to the sudden death format, the FIA and F1 management have set restrictive rules to force teams to economise on engines and parts, and yet vitually force teams to go all out in qualifying from the 1st min?

In the end, the presumed shootout between the top 2 drivers, never materialised, as hammy and rosberg realised they rather preserve the engine and parts, instead of going for the final duel to the death

i think the new qualifing system is total horse shit as cars grid places no longer represent the speed of the car or driver its just total luck

i rather they return to the 80s format, 60mins free qualifying with a restriction on the number of tyres teams can use for the whole race weekend.

Qualifying was changed a few times, mainly due to certain sponsors complaining the cars they sponsored weren't getting enough TV exposure. Problem now, is that qualifying has become more of based mostly on luck.

It would do ok if they went back to one car on the track at a time.

yeah 1 lap each yielded some good results such as jos verstappen qualifing in 2nd place in a crap car (either minardi or arrows cant remember which)

I understand what you are saying :) but you are thinking of the wrong driver.

Max Verstappen matches dad Jos' best-ever F1 qualifying result in only his second race as 17-year-old starts 6th for Malaysian GP

yeah it was the friday session which determined which order the drivers run qualifing in on the saturday.
as it was lowest cars in championship out first and jos verstappen was the second car out and then it rained meaning he was second fastest car for that session also meaning that on the saturday session he was the second last car for qualify run which was usually the top cars.

Perhaps, if we were to keep it, we could change it so 1. If you had started your lap and the timer had run out on you, you could finish it even if you weren't at the end of the session 2. 2 cars eliminated every 3 minutes, same rate, but to stop the less-than-1-lap-time time we have right now 3. 10 cars in the final shootout just so running is slightly more 4. Mercedes sabotages their cars so they don't win lol

its a confusing method. one shot quilifying is better or the old method. just have a rule saying you have to drive for 3 quarters of q1 2 and 3 otherwise you will get a penalty.see even i can come up with better methods. #bernies too slow get him out of the way

How has Romain Grosjean not gotten a single win yet? Even Maldonado has. (no pun intended this time)

I mean, Grosjean is a brilliant driver; I think he is capable of winning championships if he has a good car.

Was pleasently surprised by the race, and glad that the powers that be have ditched the stupid qualifying in favour of the previous system...

Not too keen on Channel 4s coverage though, that new presenter is awful!  At this rate I might have to befriend someone with sky sports!

i thought bbc and c4 were highlighting it. so i was suprised to see DC and MW there. it will be weird because it looks almost like bbc but hopefully ill get used to it. i like how vettel shot fires by spraying his old team mate. webber. if he didnt have anyone there he would have punched him.  and i didnt really like the presenter. he knew nothing. #bring back jake humphrey.
