If you use 3 tokens for best setup and it's a wet start but you know it will dry during the minority of the race. You can't overide it to dry settings.
Even thought you spent 3 tokens you should still have the option to  change it to whatever you want without it re writing back to the setting.

From my experience the setup is done by looking just for the qualifying session. I tried in the past putting a dry setup for a race that had wet quali and I knew that at some point would have turned into a dry race (which has effectively happened, resulting in 2/3 of the race in dry conditions) but it resulted in a major loss of pace during the whole race (both in wet and dry condition).

I know it's kinda nonsense, but the setup must be done just for the conditions during the qualifying session. During the race the right setup (which gives you the best performance) is set as the one required during the quali.

So even if you know that the race is gonna be dry, if during the quali it's spitting rain, the right setup is for a wet race, so the 3 tokens allow you to get the maximum performance.

I am pretty sure the setting will change if you spend the 3 tokens, notice if you spend the 3 tokens do some practice laps then come back later, the setup will automatically change for you if the conditions have changed. Also do not forget everyone will be in the same situation so there is no advantage of disadvantage for a manager.

It doesn’t once the race has started.

I have to ask the question though why would you use 3 tokens for best set up if it’s wet and you know it’s going to end up dry and if you know the best set ups (it’s not hard to know these) then why would you ever use any tokens?

It seems counter productive purposely doing a wrong setup for wet if the race dries, surely you're better to start on the right setup and go flying out the gate, like I said almost everyone will do this so you don't gain or loose and advantage as everyone's in the same boat. It would be nice to adjust it mid race tho.

I mean if it's 0.2mm and 30 degrees and will dry completely in 2 laps at the start of the race you gain an advantage by doing a dry setup. I don't just mean for me, people pay the 3 tokens and then are held to whatever the ai setup decides even if it's not beneficial for the whole race, maybe it should allow an option of switching between best wet best dry setup for your tokens.

I understand you can do excel and record everything but for people who don't I think this would be a good option.

You don’t need to spend tokens for perfect setup, I think you have a case for those who get perfect setup through daily rewards: those limit the strategic choice of setup

Yes I would say so too

+1 for this from my side.
If you do the dailies and get the Setup even if you dont want to, there is no way to change it.

There is an easy fix.
If you bought/got the setup made the button clickable and remove the token sign.
But Allow changes made to be saved.
Should not be an big issue.
As an developer on my own this would be like an hour work to fix the according parts on it.

Everyone seems to be ignoring Lorenzo's post (#2). If what he has tested and experienced is correct (ideal set up for qualifying weather conditions endures for the entire race) why would anyone want to change it to something that will make you slower?

From my own observations I believe Lorenzo is correct. An incorrect setup for qualifying seems to lead to bad pace for both wet and dry conditions. Even if they are suited to the weather that arrives mid race.

Why should i not change the setup if it is indeed faster?
I did some testings and my custom setups are allways faster than recommended ones.

it should be by us using the setup we like.
I mean im the boss in this game. not my drivers.

So even if i got the recommended setup in whatever way, if i change it, it should be saved.
There is no need to force someone into somthing he dont like.

What tests did you do to determine your custom setups are faster? I hope you aren't relying on practice laps.

Like you say you're the boss, nobody is forcing you to waste 3 tokens on ideal setup, nor do you have to claim the daily reward on day 7, it's your choice.

Since there is no way to have the exact same car, with the exact same driver, on the same track with matching weather there is no real test to prove it.
but yeah checking practice laps is one and having both drivers with similar pace on different setups do prove me that it can be faster.

and your right that i dont have to claim it. but why should i ignore the other benefit?

imho it is still a thing. no one expects you to use it. see it from the other side.

in the end it is my way of playing the game.
and still it is just a suggestion post.

if Lorenzo's statement is correct, then that is an indictment of the game! then the far-sighted manager will be doubly punished.

as long there is no staff member confirms it i stick with my side of the story.

Staff will never divulge game mechanics. But over the years many dedicated and experienced managers have set up test leagues full of their own accounts in an attempt to reverse engineer the sim. These managers concluded the driver's preferred setup is best.
