Having played the game for some years I've now pulled my active teams from all online leagues because I like to be able to compete for championships but know I can't because I have other real life commitments on certain days which prevent me from attending some races.

It's not really feasible to create leagues with non-race days to accommodate the RL activities of all players. So how about a championship points rule that can be set by the host where a limited number of results count towards the final championship table?

As an example, for a 20 race season, you might select the best 17 races count. A player could miss up to 3 races in the season without adversely affecting their title hopes and players who attend every race have the opportunity to discard their three worst results. (We've all had those brain fart moments... forgot to set up / forgot to renew engine / drivers not at full health / didn't set a practice lap / screwed up AS etc.)

I can see a few possible drawbacks, but this suggestion is for a host selectable rule, the default would be for all races to count.

Kevin, you could always set up earlier than the race start. I often miss a live race but set up beforehand.........and hope for the best.

Yes, that is what I do, but if you're in a very competitive league you're unlikely to score points. So currently I race in offline leagues... and still hope for the best!

i love this idea! exactly like old f1 where drivers had to discard a few races
if it was a league rule that could be toggable would add even more variety

Hope this idea gets approved, since I have the same problem. I have been playing for more than 2 years and, even If I am fast, there is no chance I can win a championship since I'm missing about 5 races per season.

If seriously, nah... It just doesn't make any sense.

Please can you explain why it makes no sense? I'd be interested to understand the argument against such a rule.

I don't like this part:
"A player could miss up to 3 races in the season without adversely affecting their title hopes and players who attend every race have the opportunity to discard their three worst results."

First at all, players constantly forget that they are not pilots, there managers/leaders of their own teams, which have staff and pilots. If a player misses a race, their team still enters the race without them.
I understand this concept, but I think it's only possible in leagues with one car, because with two cars it's a little out of place.

If you don't like it, then if the suggestion were to be introduced, you would race in a league where the rule was disabled, leaving those of us who like concept to race in leagues where the rule is enabled.

As for players who constantly forget that they are not pilots...

I don't think anyone forgets this. Rather we are instructing our drivers when to push or not, when to use boost, when to pit for new tyres and what compound to use. In other words, not driving but managing the race. If a player misses a race in an online competitive league then the chances of getting points is pretty much zilch.
