Is there a financial benefit to this? Asking because I couldn’t find in the pinned guide what the actual cost of manufacturing is…
Let me expand: as a customer of someone’s engine, I’m paying right now 500k per race. If I design my own engine, will that still cost me 500k per race? Assuming I have no customers for it - or will the cost be 0?
Similarly, if I have a customer and I set the price to 500k, does that mean 500k pure profit (if the cost of manufacturing it is 0 for me), or something else?

When you manufacture your own engines there is a cost in same way as there is when you have stock supplied engines.  You can set your own costs for customers, but don’t think of it as a profit centre, it isn’t.

The benefit of your own engines is that as you develop them and customise the settings for each track you have a far superior engine to the standard one.  When you buy from another Manager the engines are generally customised to suit them  rather than you

Thanks Skid! So from a financial standpoint, I make no money by only supplying it for myself. What about if I start having customers, is there any benefit for that, financial or otherwise?
I’d imagine the manufacturing cost stays the same (ie 500k) and anything I set above that would be my own profit, right?

I believe the base cost of your manufactured engine is 750k.

You then receive 20% of your selling price as profit per customer, which will be offset against that cost.

So if I have one customer and I’m selling them the engine for 500k, I’m basically paying 650k out of my own budget? That doesn’t seem alright…

Stock engine costs 500k, so 650k for a (I hope) superior engine, not too shabby. Remember that’s the engine you use as well, you don’t just manufacture them, you also use them in your car(s)

I’m paying 500k for a maxed lvl custom engine already, so anything above that would be a loss 😅
Admittedly, I can’t customize it to my desires, but still…

Well if you have enough clients, it can be cheaper or even make a profit

But at level 30 an engine manufacturer can change the weakness of their engine (Customers do not get this perk). So there is a long term benefit to working towards this.

(please note, cooling and reliability are not selectable as a weakness)

Ah, very true, I forgot that part. Thanks Craigie!
