Driver Numbers

Adding driver numbers was a decent idea. Pricing them at 20 tokens to change is just way too high. It was mentioned in another thread and the response from Jose was:

“As for the driver number, in real life, drivers are assigned their number once, and it's something they keep for their entire career, rather than changing it regularly. This is why we’ve priced it the way we have. ”

Fine, makes complete sense. What does not make sense is I am running in a league with, I believe, 32 cars, and almost all of them are number 32.

If the numbers were assigned randomly, I could understand, but when everyone has the same default number, well, that sort of defeats the purpose of the numbers to begin with.

Hey Vincent,

That’s the meaning of default. Same parameter for everyone before change.

Your comment made it seem as if the numbers are randomly assigned, which would make sense. Not everyone set at a single default number.

Drivers have randomly assigned country, and it makes sense that we can opt to pay $$ to exit it.

But if everyone has the same default number, and the cost is so high, no one will change it and it actually looks sort of silly with 32 cars running around the track all number 32.

That’s up to the manager to change it or not. You’re not forced to!

First, I think you need to relax.

No one said anyone was forced to do anything.
Let’s cut to the chase.

What I am saying is you added a feature that on the surface was a nice touch, but the actual execution ended up looking ridiculous.

If someone wants a specific number, they will pony up for it. But the reality is at the cost, most will leave it and because the numbers are a default 32 and not random, we end up with 32 cars driving around all numbered 32.

That’s fine, the player can decide if it’s ridiculous or not, not you. Thank you for your feedback Vincent. Very much appreciated.

I think maybe I am not clear or there is a misunderstanding.

I will try to be more clear.

I am not saying my opinion that the price is too high is the ridiculous part. That is my opinion and someone else may think differently. I doubt it, but possibly.

What looks 100%, with out a doubt, ridiculous is 32 cars driving around a race track all numbered 32. There is no debating that it just looks ridiculous.

I honestly don’t understand your combative, condescending tone. I have been playing this game for well over a decade. I want it to be the best possible, same as you. I also want you to make $$.
When you came out with the update, I made sure to make a small purchase to support the team. I am just pointing out what almost everyone is talking about.

I think it’s literally the opposite effect. If everyone has the same number as default, they’ll have more ambitions to change the number and be different than the rest.

I am just pointing out what almost everyone is talking about.

Could you please attach in which forum topics or league walls everyone is talking about it. I’d like to share the exposed point about to them too.

I don't care about the cost of changing numbers, even tho I understand people complaining about it. What I find silly is to only have 1-32 as an option.
As you also stated:
“As for the driver number, in real life, drivers are assigned their number once, and it's something they keep for their entire career, rather than changing it regularly. This is why we’ve priced it the way we have. ”
Well, in real life, drivers choose their favourite number to keep it for their entire career. Therefore I'd have expected 1-99 as an option. What if I don't like any number from 1-32? I'd happily spend 20 tokens to pick my favourite number (which is outside the 1-32 range), will never do it if I can't pick it.

The reason for this is very simple. The current version of the viewer was developed to support 32 garages, 32 cars and 32 numbers. So hosting numbers higher than that was being refused by the viewer.

Of course we’re working in a new implementation that allows numbers higher than 32.

I've to agree here. Not trying to be harsh or rude, etc here, but Vincent makes a good point. It does look weird when all drivers have the same number going. What I suggest is that going forward or in a small update that might come in the future, driver numbers are randomized.

Hmm.. I do feel the way this thread has developed is why so many people have quit which is a shame.  All cars numbered 32 is ridiculous, sorry it’s my opinion, but seeing as the Race Viewer has been busted since the update it’s not particularly relevant atm ( for info on this account when I view a race in either 2d or 3d I just see the track and cars with no race data nor can I change to another car.  On my other account I view on an  iPhone and see all data, but only in 2D, if I try to switch to 3D it stays as 2 D.  To me problems like this are game busters.)

If it wasn't ridiculous when they were all 1, why is it an issue now at 32?

Archie even that statement is ridiculous.  Adding the mechanic to change numbers but changing everyone from 1 to 32 is ridiculous.  Why not just leave them all as 1?  Some would say the previous convention was ridiculous as well, but personally car numbers are irrelevant to me and I only commented as I was disappointed at the way the thread was developing and the busted race viewer means the numbers are meaningless anyway.

Which is why it's now customizable. People just want free stuff. Personally, I'd just change all the cars to #1 and call it a day.

This is a moot discussion. Regardless of whether or not the game assigns unique randomised numbers to each driver in a league, as soon as you allow players to select their preferred number, it is inevitable there will be duplicates. Agreed, they won't all be the same number, but neither will each driver in a league be unique.

Even if the range is widened to 1-99 how many Brits will want their driver to be 4, 44 or 63, Spaniards wanting 14 or 55 etc. If the Devs introduced logic to prevent duplicates in a league, how would you deal with newcomers to a league or those that have either been promoted or relegated? You'd be charging people 20 or 40 tokens each time they moved league/tier to select a number they didn't really want.

So yes, having a single default number is the only real option, what that number should be (1, 32 or anything else) is kind of irrelevant.

There is another option (like I said earlier I’m not bothered about bespoke numbering), but you could give the number relevance by it representing your finishing position the previous season.  Those promoted could be given the next numbers following the lowest placed member of the league and new joiners could be allocated the next set in order of when they joined the league.  Car resetting would be an issue, but assuming it can’t be coded for you to retain the no of the previous season’s finishing position it would just be a simple choice of resetting or keeping your number.  For some seeing your number improve each season would be an incentive especially considering how many threads there used to be about increasing the allocation of pts per race(these are the managers the game needs to find ways to retain.  We don’t see these threads anymore since they have all probably quit).

The point I'm making is that regardless of what number the game assigns, all #1, all #32, previous season finishing position (or any other method for that matter) because you are now allowing managers to assign custom numbers there will almost inevitably be duplication within the league/tier.

If a Managers wants to assign (for example) #4 to their driver and are prepared to pay 20 tokens for the privilege, they are not going to care that the game has already assigned #4 to the driver who finished P4 in the previous season. Hence there will be duplication.

This is why the discussion about random allocation of numbers by the game to avoid "silly" duplication is a moot argument.

I'm also not bothered much about driver numbers. But decided to just add what I think about the situation. I hope that clears a bit of stuff from my side.
