On the car screen there is a section below all your car stats called "Rank on Grid". My car is currently showing "2nd". However, when I look at the research window I have the top stats of any team for all but one of them so it seems very unlikely I don't have the most developed car. Why does it display me as 2nd? 

My only thought is that it might be for the league as a whole and not just the Pro part of the league that I'm in, although I'm Lvl 18 and several of the Elite teams are in the high 20s and several at Lvl 30. 

Does anyone know what it means?

As far as I know it relates to the total number of design points. It would only need another team to have a single dp more in total for you to be ranked second.

Are you sure you're the strongest team in seven of the eight attributes? If so, how far behind are you in the one attribute you are not strongest in?

Could it be someone DP saving?

I think in this case, it is likely one of your competitors in your league, has access to a Level 30 engine supply, giving them a higher overall DP total than yourself.

The Level 30 engine has a stat differential of up to +15 (compared to the old style engines, of a maximum of +7 stats)

I don't think that is the case Peter, I don't believe suppliers impact the calculation.

This is my understanding of the various ways the ranking system works so far.


  • It is based on the total DP value of your car Compared to the Total DP Value of other cars, excluding suppliers.

  • Immediately after a race, it will reflect the cars ranking as they entered the race, it does not appear to account for research added immediately after the race.

  • I assume that there is a table with all the cars DP values stored. This table appears to only update when you spend DP. so if you spend a single DP after a race, you will often see yourself leap up the standings, as your updated position will include research gains + spent DP. Whilst anyone who has not spent yet, their stored "power" will be as per their last race entry.

  • It's possible that the power only updates when you spend DP, and that the ranking doesn't update after each race entry. Haven't really tested that theory yet, it's a tricky one.
