I purchased the fueling skill on a TD thinking it would allow me to accurately measure how much fuel I’m supposed to add before a race. Intuitive, right?
It’s been 2 races already where I ended up with no fuel on the final lap, despite rounding up the math 1L up just to be safe. What’s the point of those practice lap decimals if you cannot do an accurate calculation?
What use is it to see both the fuel consumption in practice and after the race? Only to see that there was a difference which you cannot predict beforehand?
Note that I also have driver exp at 30 so there should be few (or none at all?) race mistakes, if that accounts for anything…

Thank you

Hi Tudor

So the extra decimals will certainly be helping your precision, but there are other factors missing from your calculations.

With your practice laps, each one runs at a standard push level, I believe this to be Push Level 3, but I have seen others theorise that it might be push level 2.

You push level affects your fuel consumption in the race. So this means that your calculated fuel will only work in some scenarios.

To precisely calculate your fuel you will also need to:

  • work out how push level affects fuel consumption

  • correctly estimate how hard you will be pushing during the race (this is easier for offline leagues as it is fixed).

Factors that can influence how hard you are likely to push include: Personal style, Temperature, Amount of fuel in the car, stage of the season, Choice of strategy (softer tyres = less push)

I believe there is another TD called race engineer, which will let you manually set push levels for 1 (common), 3 (rare) and 5 (legendary) practice laps per car which might help you gather this information, but it is also possible with time to work out this sort of thing without it.

Thanks Craig, so let me get this straight: during practice laps, I don’t know what push level they’re on, therefore even if I do set it manually through advanced strategy (I’m in an offline league, NRF), the results may differ?
I typically do 5 practice laps with 3 different compounds, are they all at different (unknown) push levels between themselves? How on earth is anyone supposed to guess/find that out?
I have always set the push lvl to 3 (neutral) thus far, if I’m left without fuel either the temperature changed significantly up or down or the practice laps are indeed at push 2(?)…

By my understanding, all practice laps are always at the same push level, unless you have a the TD ability which allows you to change it.

I simply can't remember if it's PL2 or PL3. If I could remember for certain i'd let you know, so apologies for that.

As for figuring it out, some players have had it figured out to perfection for years. I imagine they worked it out over time by analysing massive amounts of race data over time, taking note of key pieces of information. As there were none of these TD ability's which helped you come to conclusions faster back then, it would have been down to pure data analysis.

It is Push Level 3 for the default push for Practice laps.

Regarding the fuel data, without giving any game spoilers, it does take at least 2 seasons to have a base to work with.

The key variables are; your driving style with your drivers (how aggressive you drive), track temperature, tyre compound used, and even racing class. Pro tier cars can use up more fuel than Elite cars, depending on ballast.

Hope that helps in some way :-)
