DRS Broken - Calculaton Line?

Hi Jack,

The feeling within out league is that the DRS system is broken and its generating some frustration. Sometimes pre DRS splits showing 0.6/0.7 between cars, then the trailling car will not get DRS at activation point. More times the car behing could be 1.2/1.3 behind at the split and gets DRS at activtion point.

Watching the splits aftert the DRS sector and you can see why DRS is missed, i know its the dynamics of the track and the simulation. Also, visually, the gaps do not repersent on the graphics, a 1.5 sec gap often looks smaller than a 0.5 sec gap.

I have view a few races in 2D, observing how the simulation is behalving and the splits that are returned, it is extremly deceptive as the gaps increase and decrease quiet significantyl between sector splits. Essentially DRS is becoming somewhat of a russian roulette.

In my opinion, a DRS detection line, with the split showing on the timimg screen before the DRS activation would solve alot of the confusion, it would be worth sitting in on a few races and just observe the dynamics and watch the splits, it will become self evident and will explain the frustration.

Hi Sean

Could you confirm if everyone is playing in 3D for this report (or the 2D map within 3D?) from what i've seen 2D is a mess. Also are there tracks where you are finding DRS worse, and others where it seems ok, or universally bad?

I have a few theories on what might be going on, for my main one to hold true the worst cases would be DRS zones directly after slow corners.

Any extra info you can give will be appreciated.

Today in Spain I missed DRS twice... DRS activates meters before the finish line...

The first time, I crossed the finish line 0.71 seconds behind the car in front, the second time 0.57 seconds behind. On neither occasion did any car use KERS or anything that would have increased the gap; I was simply 1 second behind in the DRS zone, and it didn't activate.

Most tracks here. Azerbaijan is awful with that bug. And Russia so far

Hi Red,

League members are playing across varoius diviced and viewing modes, most playing on devices, so mobile app, 2D & 3D

Im on PC, have done a side by side comparision viewing races in 2D with the PC App and on chrome [duel screens], i must say they run identical, also pulled up the up map from the 3D viewer and it is similar. Concertina effect in corners and unrelistic slowing seems to be causing a large amount of the problems.

It ran smoother in the bends tonight, although that may be from Jacks update.

RDS is still an issue. So far our league has run Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Australia, Singapore & Malasyia, we have experienced the same issues on all these tracks. I agree, it seems to be DRS out of slow bends. If you get it!!!
Sometimes DRS is activating on the bend. In Aus, for me DRS was activating comming out of 2nd last bend.

DRS is still a lottery, it is extremly hard to be consistent with it. My cars have often been running together, so have total control managing PL and gap, i still find it hard to get DRS consistently every time.

Tonight in Malaysia, overtaking under RDS was a huge issue, even with back markers, there is a huge blocking element in play. That can be both good and bad, but its as a consequence of the update.
