Sync both battery and use it on a last lap

Having the sync/link of ERS/battery ON, I tried to use it by pressing it. It happened in both PC and app. The first time I thought I may have forgotten to activate the sync, but it has happened in various races and others managers have noticed it as well.
The ERS is consumed on 1 car, but the second one consumes only around 10% or none.

I haven't been able to understand what triggers it, sometimes the game works as intended and other times the KERS of the second car is not consumed at all with the sync ON. Since it is the last lap and everything happens so fast I forget to check if the KERS is being drained.
